I've heard these 2 long pieces of their music downloaded from their site and I'm really impressed. I haven't ever heard such good symphonic prog performed by new band before.
Have anyone heard their new album? Is it good? There are two thing that I don't understand: 1. They was formed in 1999 but released debut album in 2005. So what had they been doing for these six years? 2. Where are these two tracks on Wobbler's site from? | I had heard some live tracks - live in Oslo, I think, and was reminded very much of the wetton period King Crimson and was looking forward to hearing Hinterland. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed with the sound, but I'm sure a few more listens will wipe that away. |

Funny thing is I am listening to the CD right now and saw this thread. Yes, the CD is very good. If you liked the tracks on the website then you will like the CD. VERY symphonic with a LOT of Mellotron and organ. Very similar musical style to Anglagard though Wobbler have a slightly more modern feel and less flute and guitar. I don't know the answers to your questions, however, but I would think that the songs on the website were probably written and recorded before the tracks on their debut CD. Yah, give it some more spins. It took me about 4 times to get really into it. Hmm, I remember that I had the same feeling with the first listening of all the Gabe-era Genesis, VDGG, recently Discipline - Unfolded Like Staircase, and many more albums which are now masterpieces for me. So maybe it's a good sign

By the way, I have to say that anybody who has NOT downloaded the free demo songs from Wobbler's website really should do it now. Don't wait. They may not be up there forever. The songs are 14 and 13 minutes long and are fantastic symphonic heavy prog like Anglagard or Anekdoten. I saw Wobbler perform live at Nearfest 2005 just last month. They were okay, but after a few songs, everything sort of sounded just the same. Loved the lead singer tho... he had this long beautiful "Pantene" type hair... I just wanted to wash it...   ------------- THIS IS ELP

Wobbler was fantastic at NEARfest. I kick myself in the arse everyday for not buying their cd when I had the chance at NEARfest. Now I 'ave to wait until September 6 to buy it. ------------- And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? The two website tracks are demos recorded with programmed drums. That said, they are great and I think I might like them better than the CD itself. One of them appears in higher-quality version on a compilation in support of the ProgDay festival here in the US - I highly recommend this comp, and it's currently on sale for a measly $9 US. (Good cause, too - ProgDay's having a rough time financially.)

I'm listening to their CD right now, and I have to say it's great. Like already mentioned there is lots of Anglagard in it, specially Hybris. I've downloaded these songs at some days, but the problem to me is the dominance of the keyboardist ! I know he is the band leader, but he don't give space to the other bandmates... Look, the music is good, but sometimes I remember SINKADUS, only because... in some moments they really sound like a copy of ANGLAGARD. But with an inexpressive guitar player... I think that in the Scandinavia is very difficult find new guitar maestros like REINE FISKE...

Just listened to Wobber properly for the first time yesterday ... (and yes, do download the tracks guys) ... I really quite enjoyed Hinterland ... especially the 27 minute title track ... very powerful use of synths, but also nice flute and guitar sections ... The vocalist is propably least impressive aspect of the band ... I do think the band needs to move in a different direction before it all starts to sound "samey" ... I love Wobbler and do agree that Hinterland is one of the best new albums of 2005. Good music,which I saw referred to before(by Mike,I think)as "regressive" because of the extensive use of vintage keyboards,and a sound faithful to and evocative of 70's symphonic prog. I think their only weak point is their singer,he just doesn't impress me. Their keyboardist Lars Frederik Froislie also plays in the band White Willow and they are worth checking out. -------------  |

Ordered it just this minute, so I expect it next week sometime..., my second 2005 prog album after VdGG - Present. Not having heard any tracks yet, it'll be a new experience for me. If I like them, then White Willow maybe next on my list. I have downloaded the two sample tracks though, but have yet to listen to them, I shall do this later. I guess Wobbler will have to do until I can finally get copies of Anglagard and Anekdoten's albums. -------------

This CD is excellent, I am enjoying it a lot. I find the MP3s
though are even better, even if they do have processed drums. The
vocalist on the sample MP3s sounds like a cross between Colosseum
(Chris Farlowe) and Tempest (Paul Williams) and there is a very catchy
singing part in Imperial Winter White Dwarf that reminds me of
Colosseum a lot. The CD still need more listens yet for it to
fully impress me. As much as I love VdGG and Present, I get more
enjoyment out of this CD at the moment. It's currently my album
of the year. Also there is some lovely bass in there too and
great mellotron and mini-moog runs. Who cares if it's not original? If it's good, it's good. Highly recommended. -------------

Help please!! I just heard a song by Wobbler on the prog rock radio station and the "Now Playing" screen said
Wobbler (Leprechaun Behind the Door) It was a GREAT song but when I checked the discography, they only have Hinterland as a release and its not on that CD. Can you guys tell me whats going on? Do they have another release out? I need that song!! Thanks! ------------- Mike |

I've heard (though not for some time now) that they are working on two new albums, the first will mainly be old materiel re-recorded, or recorded for the first time, and the second will be new materiel. Mind you, the first was supposed to be out this year but not much hance of that happening now. ------------- Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005
