This may have been posted before, but what do think of Gilmour's first solo album?

I have always liked it (particularly "There's No Way Out of Here", "Deafinitely" and "I Can't Breathe Anymore"), but I think his second About Face is far more creative and bolder step away from Floyd.

Best Floyd solo album bar none. About Face does nothing for me, very dated sound. I do like On An Island a lot, a pipe & slippers album.

I like this one a lot, but it deafinitely (ha ha) sounds like a solo album sideline from a major band (rather than the "I can stand on my own as a headliner" stance of About Face).  My favorite is "Short and Sweet", which I think was co-written with Roy Harper.

Very nice, but nothing I would pick over Pink Floyd themselves.

The interesting thing about the sessions for this album is he recorded instrumental versions of "Comfortably Numb" and "Run Like Hell" before Waters gave them lyrics; I don't think these have ever surfaced, even on bootlegs.

Almost thoroughly enjoyable. I really like the sounds Dave chose for his guitar. "So Far Away" - my most favorite track on the album.

Gilmour's original versions of "Comfortably Numb" and "Run Like Hell" were finally officially released on the 'Immersion' edition of The Wall in 2012.

Didn't this album feature his 'Jokers Wild' band-mates for his pre-Floyd days ??
Being a (try-hard) bass player, I can get into Wills' playing - not complex, but tasteful and busy. I know he played with live Roxy, and he found himself in Foreigner. Anything else anybody knows of ?

Raise My Rent is one of those tearjerkers by Gilmour.

Hi,

The album was nice ... but the video that came up around it of a tour in France, or something like it, is FARRRRRRR BETTER than any of the album!

I did know about live recordings from About Face, which are far better than the versions on the album. I wish I knew this ones too. He should release this concerts!!! Very often, his live performances are much better than the studio ones.

I think the band with him was Manfred Mann's folks ... I'm not sure, and will have to look. He does almost all of the album and there are some nice bits and pieces of interviews, the better one being him talking about "getting it" and tripping on a certain groove ... and being able to extend it, and he does that on one piece. it was, for me, a really big suggestion that he could no longer do so with Pink Floyd as a band, specially with the technical shows that were already computerized and that on his own, he could just trip out with the guitar whenever he felt like it.

Yeah, that's what's so great about the early live Pink Floyd performances. There would be a lot of jamming and extending songs without much time constraints. And most of the times the songs came out so much better than the studio ones. I guess that experience came out handy on their first Wall show, when some technical problems prevented them from building the Wall on time and the band had to extend the "Last few Brick" part to give the crew time to finish the Wall.
