Some of my all time favorite movies. It was hard to narrow the list down to these, but I tried to choose films that I think need much more love than they get either because they are foreign (im fairly certain that im one of only a handful of people who live in Alabama that know who Bergman, Tarkovsky, Kurosawa, etc.. are) or because they get over shadowed by the directors other films (Mean Streets, Blood Simple, Sorcerer etc..) oooorrrr because they fit into the cult category ( Videodrome, Repo Man, Naked Lunch etc..). Hopefully a good mix that will get you to think for a bit. -------------

You can not vote in this poll. Dammit. Well, if i could vote, the chosen one would be Oldboy, damn that movie is great. But Children Of Men (that scene with In The Court Of The Crimson King on the Battersea Power Station was the most prog scene ever hahahah) and City Of God (very well know movie here in brazil) are great too.

i have almost all of these films - not a dud in the bunch .. Sorcerer is my favourite - and not just because of the TD score .. it's gritty, tense, and mesmorising - perfectly paced and cast. Fit's my cinematic sensibilities to a T. Makes a good companion piece to Midnight Express. And no - i haven't seen the original Wages of Fear yet but i will.

I will never understand why Friedkin says his casting of Roy Scheider as lead actor was one of the worst casting decisions he made. He was perfect in the role. I've been trying to get my hands on Wages Of Fear for some time. -------------

I've only seen 11 movies out of the 25 listed so maybe my vote is a tad misleading. Went for Children of God as the scene where Theo and Kee are allowed to make their way unharmed between two sets of opposing military forces who look on in awestruck silence while they carry the only extant human baby in the world, is spine chilling. -------------

I have seen ten of these movies and went with Dead Man for a few reasons. It has been awhile since I first watched the DVD but from time to time this movie will pop into my head out of nowhere. So it had a lasting impression which says something about a movie. It had a great cast even though many were cameo roles. I really liked the interaction between Blake (Depp) and Nobody (Gary Farmer). Then there was the one man soundtrack by Neil Young which was recorded live in the studio (the bonus features on the DVD covers this nicely).

Since I last saw this poll, I've watched Ichi the Killer, The Seventh Seal, and House. I still like Pi the most out of those, but The Seventh Seal is a close second. |
