hard frickin question man.. I have to rate them damn near equal. In general I have always generally thought that Bonham and JPJ were a tad bit overrated in the pantheon of greats on their respective instruments. Still among the greats, but not top tier which I've seen many put them (especially Bonham), which puts them on the same level with Butler and Ward. Which do I enjoy more. Easy.. Bonham/JPJ but that isn't as much about them as it is that with Zeppelin they had more opportunity to explore and show their versatility and creativity. Led Zeppelin was music of many colors.. and many moods while Sabbath was to me more of dark hues and dark moods. ------------- The Pedro and Micky Experience - When one no longer requires psychotropics to trip |

Ward's drums are more in front and better to me, but John Paul Jones was the better bassist, and he had the greatest name of any member of not just either band, but pretty much any of the classic hard rock bands of the '70's. Can't vote, can't undermine either.

two pionts to Bonham hes 1 / 3 of Jeff Porcaros Rosanna grove the two others is Bernard Purdie and Jeffs interpetation of Fool In the Rain and Babylon Sister + Jeffs interpretasjon of Totos Rosanna groove tw. 2. Fool In the Rain is a killer track with insane shuffle drumming. -------------

I had no big fascination for Bonham until I saw Zep live, a life changing experience similar to Lemmy's last show with Hawkwind or Soft machine with Holdsworth. I mean in concert, the man was a beast , a monster and a hurricane. ------------- I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth. |

Damned difficult. I'd take Geezer over JPJ, but Bonham overshadows just about everyone -- with no slight at all to Ward (Love him on "Rat Salad" and on the albums Vol. IV and SBS). But as far as Bonham, how many drummers could start a beat and you knew instantly who it was? Although i prefer Sabbs over the Zeps...still its very very difficult to pick among them Steve!..if we are talking about the rhythm section... Bonham and JPJ were better instrumentalists... On the dark side, Butler and Ward were perfect for Sabbath.. Going wid the Metal Gods on this one. |

Bonham and Jones........never thought that much of Sabbath's players...including Iommi though I do like some of the riffs and melodies they came up wih on the earlier albums.

Easy choice, Jones is the most progressive LZ member IMO (just listen to his KC inspired solo albums) and I can easily listen to the live performances of 'Moby Dick'... damn, I could listen to Bonham soloing for hours  Geezer and Ward are perfect for Black Sabbath though  |

Love Sabbath, but Jones Bonham were a far better rhythm section imo. Bonham was certainly a far better drummer. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

I went to a lot of concerts in the seventies but never saw either of these bands live so my choice is based on recorded music. Bonham and Jones
