Subject: Missing Members
Date Posted: November 29 2014 at 22:17
Got to being a bit nostalgic for my earlier days in this forum and a particular forum member that was particularly entertaining in those days.  Then I realize that it has been ages since I've seen this person post anything.  So, I look up their name in the http://www.progarchives.com/forum/members.asp" rel="nofollow - Memberlist  only to find out that it has been 2 years and 7 days since they last posted.   This got me to wondering where they went and also if I wasn't the only person who has noticed a member of our little world here has dropped off the map.
To get to the point: I made this thread in order for current members to file ProgArchives' missing member reports, maybe get some answers as to where they've gone, and maybe even encourage members-in-hiding to reappear.

Anyone know where Henry Plainview went?   Been 2 years and 1 week since he last posted... the day before Miley Cyrus' 20th birthday.  Coincidence?

I too miss people, though I have little to report about them--  James (Gecko), great person and a lot of fun;  Assaf (avestin), one of the finest PA collabs ever and a helluva guy;  Ricochet of course;  Lee (Man Erg), probably our most knowledgeable member at the time and an honor to work with.   And where's Easy Livin and Tony R ?   We miss you guys!  Guigo too, though I see him occasionally.   Nice to have Raff and Micky around.

I think there's thread much like this one somewhere.

Don't know where they are but Easy Livin hasn't posted since May and Tony R has been postless since October 11.
Tony R has the most posts in PA history, btw, with 1,001,942.  Say it only took a minute to make each post that would equal just a bit shy of 2 years of actual time spent posting.

There was an announcement of that back some time ago.

I remember the announcement but I took that to be his retirement from Admin, not PA.  But you could be right.

Same feelings I get, thinking back to the "glory days" and where everyone is.
From what I gather, most just get burnout or busy with life.

Which are the reasons I scaled back myself/am gone for weeks on end sometimes.

I thought this thread was for people looking for actually missing members, such as in: "Lost left arm in a car crash last week-end. Thick skinned, with a lot of hair and a "Genesis forever" tatoo. Huge award for anyone bringing it back".

There's one guy I miss and I don't even recall his name. He was active a couple of years ago for just a couple of months and he was really hip to some cool avant modern music and he even inspired a few purchases of mine. Just goes to show even the minor players in this forum can leave a lasting impression and make valuable contributions.
And no it wasn't Knobby.

I do not miss Walter at all. Quite a hefty tit, if you ask me.

A true sweetheart in real life. He was a REAL pleasure to meet. He stayed with Raff and I a couple of years ago and we went to the Magma show.

I had laughed at him for being so star struck talking with Christian Vander while Vander and I just smoked cigarettes together pre show .. but he got last laugh when I turned green later when I bumped into Stella and we locked eyes over the desert table after the show and she left left me a quibbling mound of man jelly.

what a woman...LOL Heart

Last I heard he was in Hawaii doing his patriotic duty as the best of us did, we were FB friends before I took leave.. of taking leave of my senses .. of FB.

Good call on Eric (E-Dub). I do keep in touch with him through Facebook but he was a great asset to this place. I'll never forget when Neo pretty much got left in his hands alone and we combined the genre teams for a while. Great to work with and just a great guy all the way around.

On the other hand, I am very happy to do without Walter, Henry Plainview and other such "colourful" characters. We have to face enough aggravation in everyday life to want more of it on a music forum.

yeah HT.  He had the patience of a saint not to unfriend me on FB.  I did often get a bit carried away in my political rantings which I don't exactly think he was sympathetic to LOL

That would have stunk.  I loved keeping up with him and that GORGEOUS family of his.

Eric, Snowie (Ian not Iain) and Alex (harmonium.ro/Andu) are all still around on Facebook from time to time, as is Vic (Ricochet).

Walter was banned for picking on newbies and being quite obnoxious with it, not for his silly (but never funny) post 1989 views.

It was amusing that Nick (Henry Plainview) hasn't been seen since we promoted him to Forum Moderator. Often what people believe the Admins think of them doesn't quite match what the Admins actually think, and I expect that came as a bit of a surprise to him.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't purposely stayed away. A lot of things have happened between then and now and spend most of my time on Facebook. Perhaps I'll drop by more often. A lot of good people here that I miss a lot. Miss the old days when me, Ivan and HT ran the neo team.

Honestly, I feel a bit guilty regarding a thing between the two of us a few years ago and you proposed we add Steely Dan and I pushed too hard against it and it got contentous. I think the captains pushed his ejector seat button. Quite a pity that he got some bad vibes. I liked his reviews.

I miss Henry Plainview but not WalterDigsTunes. I might have disagreed with HP on pretty much everything, but most of what he wrote made me rethink about the basic issues at hand. At least that happened when we engaged in an in-depth discussion.

If you think oldschool ProgArchives was bad, you should have been on Metal-Archives from 2006-2008 when I posted there. Basically Stormfront with more junkies. Now all those types have been forced unto reservations at deathmetal.org and Nuclear War Now!.

you would be surprised.  I did get a bit out there and you know me, when I get rolling and when I start foaming at the mouth I have the tendency to really say what I think and feel and often it can appear to insult and degrade those different. Never intended though. However yeah, I did get unfriended a few times which I always understood.  As Raff often tells me... I can be a real hand-ful to deal with. LOL

Smile  As far as that... we all were a bit crazy then.  I understood completely.  We all were a bit overly passionate then, long forgiven and long forgotten.  As far as that other unfortunately incident, I did what anyone would have done.  You are a sweetheart, the dude who came at you was trash.  I will defend a friend in a heartbeat, and back then I also got great kicks at taking out the trash with some of the morons we used to have posting here.   Part of the internet tough guy schtick which I loved mainly because it is so in reality from what I really am LOL

Great to see you back. Clap I don't think it will take you long to see what Raff and I have noticed, many have,  the forum today is a MUCH different place than it was during the 'glory' days.

Hi, Tom. To be honest, I had a pretty nasty run in with a member with some venomous PM's being exchanged. I'd have to go back and look them over, but for the life of me I don't recall what it was over. It was pretty nasty, though. That probably started it for me.

For all of it's faults, Facebook put me back in contact with people who have long since left my life through moving, jobs, or just the natural order of separation. One of the guys with whom I've come in contact was a catalyst in getting me into Rush back in high school and it's been close to 30 years since I've seen him. So, for me Facebook served a grand purpose and I've spent the majority of my time over there the past 5 years or so.

In my case, it may have been a conscious effort to split from Progarchives. I've met some very good people here, and this thread reminds me that they're still around.

I don't get the forum nonsense.
If I venture online, it's for a positive experience .. an escape from day to day ho hum surrounded by people who I have nothing in common with. If I wanted to fight, i'd still be married.

unfortunately the anonymity of the internet gives people licence to behave in ways they wouldn't dare in public.
(it's why those particular people are bitter, miserable, shut-in basement dwellers, who's only way of affecting the world around them is via a negative exchange with some faceless person on the other end of a wire)

I'm digging this forum because it's kept pleasant.

I agree with anyone who takes a walk once it turns unpleasant. I do the same (without fanfare or announcement)

I hate this attitude of 'if you don't like it - ignore it, it's just the internet'.
How do people not understand that everyone else here is also a person and unless they're deeply emotionally damaged, they expect a mutually pleasant experience online.

sorry - that came from nowhere ..

Well, I'm not claiming innocence. I'm sure I've played the 'douche bag' card from time-to-time. Yeah, I know it's hard to believe to those who know me. Big smile

you would be surprised.

Clap I don't think it will take you long to see what Raff and I have noticed, many have,  the forum today is a MUCH different place than it was during the 'glory' days.

just wait till he finally meet ol' evil Uncle Micky...I'll have him appreciating the brilliance of Phil Collins and digging Misunderstanding and learning the secret truth that prog Genesis is the single greatest cure for insomnia prog rock has ever given us. LOL

Let him have an evening with me and my Osanna CD's... he'll never go back to Genesis again hahaha

loudly and proudly pink and liberal LOLThumbs Up  It is nice to leave it at home though Eric.  FB drew it out in me, and a drip becomes a torrent for me.  One of the many reasons I finally gave up on FB.  I leave it at home here.  I do like that about the site,  so much music, so much mischief, so little room for the really important stuff  LOL  It is an escape. The thing that drew me to it in the first place. Instead of escaping my own personal hell.. I just escape the big picture hell and how this country is going right down the toilet.Ouch

E, Great to see you on here.  It's weird, but I felt very honored that you fb'ed me when you were taking your leave.  I've enjoyed keeping in touch.

Henry was a hoot as well, Snow Dog too, a lot of people have gone on.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Jody (The Progtologist if I remember correctly).  I haven't seen him in ages.

Someone was asking about why people fade from PA.  I can say this, I took a break for about a year and a half myself, for me there was just a general disengagement from a lot of the things that I had enjoyed.  There was a lot of personal strife going on in my life and music in general just didn't have a lot of the same magic that it had had throughout the previous forty years of my life.  It was mostly related to things that had nothing to do with music, but still, sometimes the death of one passion can have an ancilary effect on your other passions.

I always found Alitair's posts to be entertaining, that guy was very unique.

I miss The Truth, but I haven't seem him around here in a long time. That could be a symptom of the fact that I haven't been around as much lately though.

I'd add colorofmoney91 to the list but I have him on facebook so that one is covered

Does Epignosis still post here? I haven't seen him in a long time, but again, that could be a symptom of me not being around very much anymore.

A lot of time life just gets in the way and you drift off to do other things! This is the first time I have been on PA in quite a long time (though I have pointed a few people here in the time I have been away). It is good to see a lot of the old names still about.
