This was always going to be an obvious outcome, Scenes.... is just one of the gretest albums of all time IMO, and yes i know a lot of people will argue me over that!

Scenes from a Memory by far. It is a concept album as you all know and it feels much tighter and appears to have a general direction that Awake lacks I think.

Awake outclasses Scenes which has some really great moments , but it's the most overrated album
by Dream Theater.
1. Images/Awake
2. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
3. Scenes from a Memory
4.Falling Into Infinity
5. Octavarium
6.Train of Thought

Awake. It'd maybe be SFAM if they knew when to stop their songs.

Both are excellent, but Moore owns Rudess, so Awake.

Both are truly brillinat albums....so let us have a look
Awake- a great album. Very good balance, composition, lyrics, a lot of emotion in the writing( something most Dt is missing) This album has a great flow. The opening of 6:00 grabs you and pulls you through the whole album, taking you through a range of emotinos from dpression, to uplifting , to haunting, and most things in between. the closing is a great ening with its dark, haunting melody and brilliant composition. moore's keyboards are at an all time high in the album. He complements the band well, giving them enough room to breathe, but also showing off his skill. He adds a lot to the songwriting which is probably the best on this album. Petrucci;s guitar gets very heavy on this album, but also has that classic pertrucci solo work. he shows off a lot more of his metal on this one. Portnoy's drums are as great as ever.Myung's bass playing really finds it's center of balance on this album. There are great and creative basslines al over the place that add to songs instead of just doubling the guitar. LaBries vocals are strong but not his best work.
Sfam- another great album. Most people see this as the begining of the end of dreamtheater. "Dream theater's last great album." This ablum had a lot of good compositions, and a lot of good playing. A blaance of heavy and light songs, many memorable songs, lyircs, and moments. The album starts off on a strange note. For a first time litsener, this opening is a turnoff. But the ticking of that clock has become a prog metal icon, because as soon as you hear, you know whats coming next, one of the greatest prog metal albums of all time. on this album, dreatheater begins to do w hat the are infamous for, crazy non-sensical solo passages. This album was where it bagan. On this album, however, itsa not so non-sensical just a little too much in abundance. The solos and riffs are crazy, but well writen and well placed. The songwriting seems to h ave gone downhill since the absence of Moore on keyboards. His replacemnet, rudess, is extremely talented as a player, but you get a sence on this album that he might be too agressive. Moore's brillinace was his way of being able to showoff his talent, but also allow everyone else to do the same. But rudess is in a nonstop frenzy on this ablum. And although what he plays is unbelivably amazing and incredbly talented, i tihnk i would have prefered moore's passive aproach on this album. that being said, this album would not be what it is without rudess. Petrucci feeds off rudess's crazy energy and spits it right back out.The two of them together make a great pair of insane riffs and solos. Some of the best moments on the album are solo battles between the two of them. His guitar work adds alot to the songs, as it does on every album. Portnoys drums are amzing on this album, some very good moments. Myungs bass is kind of weak on this album. I think the abundance of nonstop crazy riffs did not permit him to be creative and write good , driving basslines. The only thing he could do on most of this album was keep up with pertrucci and rudess( a task in which myung has no trouble at all) LaBries vocals are very weak, if not the weakest the've ever been.Overall a great album. Many strange time signitures and time changes that dreatheater is famous for. A very great album that is essential for every prog metal head
so in the end.....I think i have to go with awake. This is because the songwriting is better, and has more emotion
but who cares what i tink anyway..

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.
