I saw an example of this in the PA Prog Bands, Artists and Genres Appreciation forum section. There is a huge shift that we are all (mostly) aware of with bands getting away from major label backing as world wide communication has allowed for self reliance and self promotion. Bands are increasingly turning to their fans for grassroots funding of new albums recording and distribution. I myself have participated in the new Exivious pre-funding campaign, paying a little more for the unique cover art and t-shirt. What are your feelings about this trend? What are the parameters required for you to participate in a pre-funding campaign?

No, but I'm poor.
If the incentives were big enough and it was a band I really loved (and of course I had spare income) I would consider it. |

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect. |

I would fund an album up front if I knew the band and they did actually require the money upfront to get the album made.

Other: Yes if (a) and (b).
a) If the album is not a musical equivalent of Salo, or 120 days of Sodom, does not promote or demote any political ideas (in short, has nothing to do with politics), and does not promote bad behavior. b) Other people know that the band works hard (and hard enough) on its material, and the people love the band. Bet you didn't see an "other" option coming, Tappy.

#14 for me. I would support any good music, as long as it is good. But it has to be good.
