Yes, nonsense is the word I choose!  I have been a Queen fan for as long as I remember and there isn't one thing I couldn't tell you about the recorded output of this band.  Is it prog??  I wouldn't say so but I base my idea of prog rock on some stupid general concensus of what prog is supposed to be!???  This discussion has made me open my eyes!  Before, I would have agreed that even though Queen is my favorite band, I wouldn't have expected them on here anywhere.  Then for an entire two seconds I opened my mind...some should try that!!!!!!

If taking the very meaning of prog defined by Archives, Queen is most definitely a band that deserves to be included.  Name another band that has successfully recorded metal, punk, pop, rockabilly, dance, opera, and even vaudeville...and managed to have them sound good within the context of a single album?  Name any other band that had the foresight to record a metal opera like "Bohemian Rhapsody" before 1975, not including the Who who took four sides of vinyl to do what Queen did in under 6 minutes.

I have the same problems now that I had in elementary school when I was being made fun of for loving this band.  You have the majority of people who seem to think that Queen's radio hits were an indication of what Queen sounded like as a whole.  People who listen to "Killer Queen" and don't get it, or "Another One Bites the Dust"...I can list TOP 10, TOP 5, and NUMBER 1 songs by Queen all day, but that doesn't mean they were the band's greatest songs.  Those who yell and cry about Queen not being progressive haven't listened to a vast majority of their recorded album material and base their opinions only on the few songs they have passed along as throw-away pop!!!!!!!

Tell me that "Prophet's Song" isn't a prog song??  Tell me that all of "Queen II" doesn't have extremely progressive ideas?!!?  Of course you can't, or won't, because those who bash Queen for not being prog are the same people who have been closed minded enough to sit and listen to nothing but "Close To The Edge" and "Foxtrot" and "Red" for the past 30 years without crawling from the cave and realizing that there's more out there.

Will people hate what I'm saying???  Absolutely!!  Do I care? No!!  I am a prog rock lover, and I too love the classic bands:  Genesis, Camel, Yes, Gentle Giant, King Crimson...the list is neverending!!  People need to branch out and explore and the fact that Queen is on Archives now proves that at least the admin. has the foresight to realize that what they are doing is opening the floodgates!!  I fully believe this was a good idea and congratulate them!!!

Feel free to hate me for calling those bashers out for having a one track mind, but I don't think we should all be lead like Pavlov's dogs, drooling every time the needle falls down upon "Minstrel In The Gallery."  There's more out there!!!!!

MUCH MORE!

For those who openly hate Queen, of which there are many, I will give you this to whine about:  Queen have now officially become the MOST CHARTED BAND EVER in Europe!!!!  Sorry Beatles, sorry Elvis!!  Quite a feat for a band undeserving of a spot amidst your precious prog, huh?

I thank those sticking up for Queen and those who still have an open enough mind to appreciate something different

...and while I sit amidst the 20,000 other Queen fans this October in New Jersey, I can be glad that I haven't been one of those people who learned how to teach and then forgot how to learn!

RIP Fred - We Miss You

Not wanting to stir up trouble, but I really do agree with most of this post.

I'm going to close this topic and let it drop off, as there are plenty of other threads already discussing this matter.
