Here's the Heldon album in full, if you're interested:

To me a lot of early Tangerine Dream falls under 'ambient' but then they are a pillar of the electronic prog genre. Its a fine dividing line I suppose.

Huge dividing line!! More modern electronic prog sounds like symphonic electronic rock. Not the same stuff at all. It's just the evolution of the genre itself. As I've said in one of my recent posts on this thread, is that it is difficult to find modern electronic music that sounds like Tangerine Dream. Very hard. Things have changed very mightily electro/prog genre. Zombi is my only tolerable artist right now. :)

If you like Zombi, then you should really think about getting Heldon's Stand By. Very similar in style although the greatest likeness comes with the multi tracked Bolero, that genuinely sounds like the blue print to Zombi. Also, if you can muster a bit of what can only be described as 'Fripp doing krautrock on guitar', - then you should be laughing.

Terrific. Much a appreciated. I have liked ZOMBI for a while, but i have not heard that track. At this point, ZOMBI is pretty much the only modern electronic prog artist i like right now. I will definitely check out Heldon's Stand By. Sounds great and it's been a bit difficult for me to find modern electronic artist that I like, so I will take this suggestion very seriously. Thank so very much cause gone are the Tangerine Dream days of the genre, so new blood is so nice. Take care.

The first two tracks off Underworld's Second Toughest In The Infants album are ultra mega epic prog-tronic workouts:

Hey. I really like this track. Nice job. It's a real 'dreamer'' of a tune. I like it, but the funny thing is that it doesn't sound modern but I know it was created in the period of modernity. Anyway. Thank you for this. And yes. This track is epic!

I feel like there is something I'm missing, but I'll post it here if I can think of what it is.

You know this is a really tough recommendation because a lot of electronic music today envolving even reads of prog aren't really that great because electronic music in general, hits it's stride from the 70's to the early 90's because that was the time point were the best experimental happenings took place. I mean, for instance, in electronic music their are no bands like FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON, APHEX TWIN and THE ORB that exist today in the Industry. And to find another band today that sounds like Tangerine Dream? Don't think that exists. I mean in prog? I don't know, so if anyone out there knows I would love a recommendation as well.

Good topic, subscribed

Looking for some modern "epic" electronic bands/musicians, similar to Tangerine Dream in 70thies

by "epic" I mean something suite-oriented album(s), rather then collection of short separate songs

Well KEVIN MOORE with OSI has a heavy ambient/electronic element in his post/experimental rock sound. OSI and CHROMA KEY are 2 MOORE projects you might want to check out. Tracks like BLOOD, INVISABLE MEN and the re issued remix's of GO, KICKING and HOME WAS GOOD are really worth checking out. Mind you, this may not be the exact type of electronic epics you are looking for. My failsafe for you will be Klaus Schultze's X album. I know it was done in the late 70's, but it still sounds quite modern and fresh today. It's a great album. Get that as well if you haven't heard it. You will quite happy. :)

Are there any large-scale electronica albums with "epic" song structure?  Are there any specifically grandiose electronica groups that you know of? I'm talking about more modern electronica, not Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream or anything.
