I guess you are already aware of this but just in case.

When scrolling through the reviews in the home page now and then you see a "First Review of This Album" text.
I have just reviewed the 2nd album by Dr. No 'Guerrers De Mitjanit' which did not have any review so far, but in the homepage the message for 'first review of this album' is not displayed. I guess it's because even if the album did not have any review, it had already one rating.

Not that I care much , but 'first review' should be applied to 'first review'. A rating without review should not count as a first review in my opinion.

Greetings!
Gerard

^ Looks like the rating only review by Redy60 submitted on 8th November was the first.

Hi Gerard,

There's already a thread about this topic. I've had a quick look but can't find it. I'll post here when I come across it. I don't really care about this on a personal level but it's definitely something that should get fixed. That's not going to happen though. I sent a certain person a PM in March this year and the message is still unopened in my outbox. Why bother eh?!

EDIT: here's the link to that other thread

^ Yep, the system is unfair and life sucks even for Non English speakers who will never get to see those 5 magical assuaging words to greet their efforts. A written review by a Prog Reviewer will be highlighted on the albums page and carry commensurate weight towards an album's overall score. I never once wanted to keep the candles on any birthday cake I ever received.

I take the exact opposite views. No surprise there then, you would say.

I always gets annoyed when I do the first review of an album. That's because we do have x thousand members here and it is a bit of a shame and reveals this website's shortcomings when I have to do the first review of an album which has been out for ages. Why is thousands of reasonable intelligent people ignoring that album ? It beats me.

I'll admit that I'm as thick as mince, but I honestly don't know what you're on about here. Non English speakers can post their ratings of albums but I'm not sure I see it involving much effort - especially with the recent quick rating thingy.

Again, I'm probably missing your point but I thought we were talking about 'first reviews' here - not weighted ratings.

Like I said earlier, I don't really care about this myself but newcomers to the site might get a kick out of seeing the message above their review. And someone, somewhere along the line, obviously thought this message above the reviews would be a nice little reward for people posting first reviews of albums. But it's okay, I know when my opinion isn't welcome.

Your opinion is never unwelcome (I'm just a very sarcastic critter) All I'm trying to respond to is that Snow Dog thinks the system is unfair because a 'ratings only' review takes precedence over a written review for First Review of the Album status. The pedant in me would suggest the current state of affairs is factually true but that ain't very helpful to the matter at hand.
The principal reason we have the facility of 'ratings only reviews' is to to allow non english speakers to participate on the site. i.e. it should be self evident they will never see (or understand) the addendum First Review of the Album (Is that fair?) The reason I mentioned the weighted collab rating and highlighted review status on the albums page was a (failed) attempt to reiterate what is more important i.e. the enhanced status we afford to collab or written reviews over ratings only.
The database software we currently use cannot distinguish between a ratings only review from a native English speaker and a non English speaker and it would be churlish to expect otherwise (it's not part of the registration process) I would be the first to admit that in an ideal world, the first written review should qualify as First Written Review of the Album status but am advised by techie gurus this demarcation cannot yet be accomplished.
I agree that the resultant text may constitute a perceived reward for a newcomer and go some way towards encouraging written reviews but until such time as Max implements the facility our hands are tied.

I don't think the "bug" is restricted to first rating - of my grand total of 6 reviews, 4 of them were not only first (and in one case only) review of the album, but 3 of them preceeded any ratings-only entry in the database by days and months and sometimes years. Yet none of them carry the "First Review" tag.
What?

If someone rates an album before someone reviews it there is no first review credit.  It's messed up but somewhat compensated for by ratings only not getting the same weight as a rating with a review if I'm not mistaken.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I don't give a damn about anything such as "reward" or "credit" for posting a first review, not at all. But when I scroll through the home page and see a "first review" tag it ticks some curiosity, especially when it's not a new album but something which has been out there for some time.
It was just a comment and if it can not be easily fixed, let there be prog!
