Moog have made an official ipad app called Animoog which uses their new Anisotropic Synth Engine. It's a professional quality package that you can use to create moog based music on on mobile devices. I really like being able to work on music on mobile because dead time, such as on the bus, can be used to work on tunes, and then when you're at home uou can spend time with family and so on.

Anyway the exciting news is that the normal price of Animoog will be $30 but for the first month of release it's just $1! So why wouldn't you at that price.

It's more like $501 since I would have to buy and iPad, too. Confused

Interesting fact that Little Phatty, even it is mono, can be used as polyphonic keyboard to control Animoog

It works with other midi controllers, not just little phatty.

of course it works. the point was that Fatty is monophonic, but works as polyphonic here

Has anyone else done a direct comparison between one of these software emulations and the real thing?
I've done it on a few, and without exception, the software sounds weak and sterile. A bit like comparing a blow-up doll to a real woman.
I know that it's inexpensive and easy to carry around, but the idea that software gives you what the real thing gives you, but on the cheap is a fallacy.

There are some Moog and Mellotron software emulations that sound indistinguishable from the real thing. Especially in a mix.

I really like GForce's M-Tron Pro and Minimonsta plugins. You don't have the visceral feeling of the real thing, but I can't tell the difference when they are tweaked and sitting in a mix.

Haven't tried the Minimonsta but I do own the older version of Arturia's Minimoog V (the one that they gave away for free during one day about a month ago). It sounds quite good to be honest. I never use it cos I got a Little Phatty, but I have found a use for it when recording a midi-part to have better overview (instead of writing the notes down which might take forever, Cubase can write them for me from midi) and then play it with the software to get an idea of how it sounds while I'm looking at the notes, instead of sending the midi to the Phatty which requires more time to connect etc.

Having tried out a "real" Minimoog, the Minimoog Voyager Performer Edition, I have to say the software is not much in comparison. Then again, it isn't nearly as expensive either.

The GForce is a great simulation, better than any synth simulations imo cos the mellotron is a bit easier to sample I guess (the filter is usually where all the soft synths have issues, the mellotron has none). If I had been able to use software in a live situation, I probably would have bought the GForce instead of thinking about a hardware strings synth as I am now...

As for the Animoog, making the Little Phatty polyphonic with that is nothing compared to buying a chain of Slim Phatties :D Of course, if you already own an iPad it's worth it, but if you don't saving up for two SP's will do a much better job (then adding another after some months, then another... you get the picture). That sound from an LP and 4-or-so SP's is the richest sound I've heard since the Oberheim 8-voice!

Just downloaded this for my iPhone... It's ridiculously fun to mess around with and I'm definitely going to use it with some music some day. Thanks for the heads up, though I'm a bit late for the offer. Just paid 10$.
