Here http://tvperu.gob.pe/noticias/nacional/sierra/24181-los-jaivas-emocionaron-machu-picchu.html is a permanent link from TVPeru's webpage. This link is important because it shows the whole performance of the "Alturas De Machu Picchu" album by the current incarnation of LOS JAIVAS, at the ruins themselves. It is a live performance that took place in the context of the 100th anniversary of the "scientific discovery"of Machu Picchu by Hiram Bingham.
The whole musical event took place on July 7th of 2011, including folkloric performers amd dance groups, as well as a philharmonic orchestra later in the evening. Of course, in this progressive rock site, the bigger interest lies with LOS JAIVAS' performance. Claudio Parra / piano, synthesizers Carlos Cabezas / trutruca, tarka, quena, vocals, vocals, violins Juanita Parra / drums Ankatu Alquinta / electric guitar, bass, quena Francisco Bosco / trutrucas, quena, tarka, zampoñas, sax, acoustic guitar, percussion, vocals Special guest: Eduardo Parra / synthesizers, percussion Please... comment!!

Thanks, great! Nice to see Eduardo Parra again with Jaivas.
30 years ago the band was not allowed to use amplified sound in Machu Picchu, now they did it.

I uploaded it to megavideo, here's the link to it. http://www.megavideo.com/?v=XHLJQ28B Los Jaivas are not the same they were 30 years ago, the absence of "Gato" Alquinta is noticeable: they haven't composed new music since his death, but still, to watch this concert is an opportunity to remember their epic times. Regards and enjoy! Edited by SeppeSai - July 26 2011 at 13:34 |

Actually, there was a rebirth of their epic times for their "Mamalluca" project, which took place in the dwan of the new millennium. It is a pity that Alquinta is not among us, indeed, but it is so revealing to see Mario Mutis flourishing as the frontman that he could have been. Even at his age, his body language and firm vocal presence make him a porper substitute (partially) of his departed friend. In fact, I like the way he delivers the final paragraph of 'La poderosa muerte' and the main sung parts of 'Águila sideral' better than Alquinta did.

I like Mario's singing too.
By the way, it's a pity Aurora Alquinta is no longer with Jaivas, she's an excellent singer, I guess everyone who saw "Paris - Santiago" DVD will agree.
