Which song about mathematics do you prefer? Personally i thought i'd never hear another mathematical song other than Bush's Pi but then along comes VdGG with the awesome Mathematics, at the moment it gets my voteSmile

Are there other songs on the subject, i can't think of any at the moment?Embarrassed
You must be joking.....Take a running jump......

At least title-wise, the immediate one to spring to my mind is Laurie Anderson's Let x=x.

For about three days after first hearing Grounding by Numbers I was trying to figure out the relation between e, i and pi.  I'm not a math major, so I'm probably missing some sort of relation, but I never thought those three terms were related at all...  Mathematics is a great song, though.  I would say it's a bit nerdier than Pi so that gets my vote (if I could vote, lol)

It's actually a special case of a more general formula:

e^(i*theta) = cos theta + i * sin theta

Where I am using ^ to mean 'to the power of'.

If you put theta equal to pi in this then, because

cos pi = -1

and

sin pi = 0,

you get the special case of 'Euler's identity' which is the formula in the song (and, coincidentally, as it pre-dates the VDGG song, in my avatar).
