Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else.

Record Store Day is a one day celebration of what else but MUSIC! It started a few years ago and is also celebrated outside North America by independent music stores, usually the local one off stores that focus on selling used, new VINYL, CDs and DVDs.
A lot of stores will have new releases, special RSD releases and guest musicians at various locations. Its a great way to spend a Saturday driving around town and looking for bargains as well as rare vinyl you might like.

In Seattle there are probably 20 independent record stores that are participating so I plan on spending my day flipping thru bins!
You can also put in your state and international location and it will give you a list of participating record stores.

Have fun!

Well I went out and bought a bunch of vinyl yesterday......Yesterday visited Jive Time Records, Silver Platters, Easy Street Records and Hi Voltage Records, all these are in Seattle and Tacoma.
Easy Street Records had Duff McKagan (Seattle native) and his band Loaded playing in the store......not my thing, I was never into Guns n Roses or Velvet Revolver. Although the store crowd was having fun......

Hope some of you went out and bought some records (or CD's).....

There was some discussion about this in General Discussion on the day: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=77563

I'm not able to spend much right now but the atmosphere was great, and I was able to score three used vinyls (Yes - Yes Album, Tears for Fears - Seeds of Love / Woman In Chains) for less than $13 thanks to the sales.

I definitely went out and supported my local indie record store.  Got a bunch of the RSD exclusive releases as well as a few other vinyls to boot for a good price.  The atmosphere was pretty hopping in the store which was great to see, normally I'm one of maybe only two or three regulars in there.

Two of my great finds were a brand new Yes Relayer 180gram audiophile......$7.99!! And the best one of the day....a used copy of Thick As A Brick, with the original album newspaper including the flip down portion. I have seen other issues without the flip down portion. The vinyl itself was in very good shape. I gave it a good cleaning when I got home and not a scratch, skip, pop to be heard........$7.99!

Most of the stores around here are heavy Indie, Jazz, Garage and Metalcore...so they price those pretty high like $12.99 and up. All the rock, prog rock I find is usually under $8.00, some of it new and or imports (Germany or Japan).

I am trying to buy as much as I can, the resurrgence of vinyl is gaining speed. There were a lot of 20 and 30 somethings in the stores and most buying vinyl.

That's what I'm finding too ... most of the record stores here (barring the big chains) focus more on records than CDs, have better record selections, and you don't see so many people browsing the CD sections.
