Hi Folks
I have just completed recording my first album this month and I am having a hard time based on the feedbacks I got to determine which genre it is. It sound like a combination of progressive and grunge - is there a progressive grunge style? I appricate any feedback to help in this - you can listen to the tracks at www.balinade.com Thanks Balinade Edited by balinade - March 13 2011 at 14:25 |

Well, listening to the few tracks you have on the web site I'd say it's rock music. I don't particularly hear a lot of progressiveness in it. It sounds well enough produced (over my laptop mind you) and the performance is good. But with a zillion sub-genres of every kind of music you can imagine, picking one listed at the header of PA doesn't seem fitting for what I hear. I've always though there should be a genre called KOR (Keyboard Oriented Rock). With the lead piano that I hear in these tracks that would be a fitting genre to be listed as.

I'd agree with singer songwriter. Although not in the same league as, I had thoughts of a Billy Joel style going on.

Hi Folks
I don't quite connect to the singer songwriter style - have you heard all the songs in the website (there are 4 songs). I agree that there are 2 songs with parts that the singer is "alone" accompanied by a piano but I really don't think it represent the atmosphere of this album. I did got some feed backs on progressive and some feed backs on grunge, this is why I thought of progressive grunge. I see you do not agree... Well, this is a dilemma from day1 of the album - hard to define... Balinade |

yep.listened to all four ., and enjoyed them to. singer songwriter ~ prog AOR ~ progressive mixture within each song structure.with `symphonic` leanings in there aswell., strengthening to `power chords` to Bang it up a bit [cool] your sound not akin to ., but reminiscent of `prog songs from [serge gainsbourg]` ., also but not akin to : early `elton john` "a more expansive [momus]" elements of `kevin ayers` vocal delivery sorta `camel-esque` , but i`m still here undecided.another simily required. ps. remember the old term `singer songwriter` is not to be associated soley with the feeling of `wimp` ., ie the best heavy bands had the SS qualities such as Sabbath did., and the same goes for modern bands to [porcupine tree] to my ears are clearly SS prog sounds.
