For a while now I (as well as many others) have been wondering about the strange information policy adopted by the Japanese government and Tepco, nothing seemed to make any sense. Until it struck me: It’s all about future compensation. Imagine, in a few months or years, the Japanese government will be faced with enormous damage compensation payments. Now, the way things are, that government can point at Tepco, saying that they had only been acting on information and recommendations provided by Tepco. By that time, Tepco will have been dissolved and replaced by a successor, so that the ‘culprit’ doesn’t exist any more. On top of that, what sense does it make not to extend the evacuation radius, condemning those inside 100 miles or so of the power plant to a slow and painful death? Well, if they’re dead, they couldn’t claim compensation any more. And now it suddenly all makes sense. |

Japan has just been hit my another quake, 7.4 in magnitude, near the east coast of Honshu. They're expecting a tsunami in less than 7 mins.
Deepest concerns for the people there. |

I hope the plates settle down and it is their last one for a while. The impact of the first one is staggering. The debris from the last one will be making a trip over to the North American west coast thanks to what's called the North Pacific Gyre and then head back across the Pacific westward. Tuna are in the process of migrating eastward, too. They've been contaminated by radioactive water. Over 15,000 people missing. A sad situation all around. Any more word on the nuclear situation?
I havn't heard much of it at all so I figured either the situation has been gotten under control, or they just stopped airing the news here. Hope it's the former ![]() |

The workers there have been trying to improve and fix the plant ... now
moving highly-polluted water to another tank (and pouring
lowly-polluted water into the sea ... sad to say, no other way for
improvement of the situation).

The news has really settled down here now and I think it has become a bit 'old news' as far as some networks are concerned but the threats are still very real and i hope someone can keep us updated here.

It's worrying that they have just raised the alert level to category '7' This level of severity has only ever been applied once before; at Chernobyl.
BBC Article Just to be clear this doesn't necessarily mean Fukushima will be as damaging to health and environment as Chernobyl, but it has the potential to be. Edited by Blacksword - April 12 2011 at 04:59 |
