Topic: The Tragedy of Ke$ha Posted: February 11 2011 at 20:12
From her seasick attempt to stay on the beat during the verse, to attempts at costume and make-up that are presumably the work of a 12 year old Lady Gaga fan, to the wildly unprofessional choreography and camera work, it seems to me Ke$ha is a woman in trouble. "We are who we are" is intended to be a chant of hedonistic self-affirmation, but it's really a hollow refrain of the inescapable truth Ke$ha must live with every day: she is, and always will be Ke$ha. Despite that her looks are average at best, that is all she has going for her. She's deadened every other aspect of herself because of her inescapable self-loathing. She is still aware in this state that she has turned herself into a numb, walking piece of meat, but she's trapped by all of the capricious and yet irrevocable decisions she's made in her life. She even attempts suicide at the end of the video, presumably because she feels that the sweet release of death is the only way her dissociated consciousness can approach normality, and she is only saved by the heroic actions of the extras. But people don't see it, they only see an obliviously shallow, self-absorbed bitch with a penchant for substance abuse and cock-teasing. And that is the true tragedy.
Good luck Ke$ha, and may God be with you on your journey through the night.

I think each and every one of us sometimes feels like putting on an excessive amount of makeup and dancing through the night in ripped clothes. However, I think the seemingly carnivalistic (see Bakhtin) setting of this video reveals its conformist nature when seen in a wider context and consequently acts against itself by strengthening the very values it set out to assault (see Eco).
I don't even want to know what her vagina is like.

This post is a bit disturbing: the words used by Henry are a bit harsh and could be interpreted as misogynistic ("cock-teasing bitch"? Charming).
I believe that you may have missed the point of the thread. But I guess I have to consider someone considering any post of mine disturbing to be somewhat successful.
And the new Lady Gaga song sounds weirdly like Shania Twain to me.
It's also surprisingly uplifting, perhaps Gaga has found her way out of the darkness that has ensnared Ke$ha.
