It's been too long since I read To Kill A Mockingbird, I just read Lord of the Flies last year. From memory, probably LotF, but I won't vote.

Lord of the Flies. 

I remember when* I read it, I began associating "Do It Again" by Steely Dan with that novel. It was a hit being played on the new FM radio stations a lot. The antagonist's name in the novel was Jack, and the refrain kept haunting me. "Go back, Jack, do it again."

Wasn't a fan of TKAMB, but really enjoyed the unbelievable amount of symbolism in LOTF. Brilliant.

I read Lord of the Flies some 34 years ago, but I don't remember very much of it. I have never read To kill a Mockingbird, so no vote.
Anyway, I prefer the Rings above the Flies.

Both classics, but I appreciated neither when forced to read them at school as part of our English syllabus.

I revisted To Kill a Mockingbird, a few years after leaving school, and enjoyed it a lot more.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

You know what, Robert, I intend to do just that for a long visit just as soon as I retire from Her Majesty's Government with my lump sum pension - the fact that I still have 20 years to go will not put me offOuch

Seriously, I will one day. It is about the only destination I can think of that would make me conquer an irrational fear of flying to get to. I would hate the tourist thing - I would love to just visit, tour, and stay and talk to real people such as yourselves. It strikes me as being an incredibly beautiful part of the world with a culture and history rich and rewarding.

Anyhow, how can anyone ignore an Epignosis invite????Big smile

Honestly, the American South is like anywhere else- it's lovely in some parts and dreadful elsewhere.  It simply depends on where you visit.  My wife and I stayed in a cozy bed and breakfast in Georgia two years ago, and it was dingy, I got food poisoning, and they overcharged us to boot!  Ouch

I highly recommend Eastern Tennessee (the Smoky Mountains).  I have fond memories of visiting there many times.  If you prefer the coast, you should visit Charleston, South Carolina.  Very lovely historic city. 

Florida is all swamps, tourist traps, and old people.  LOL
