Why doesnt some one start a major thread about the 50 best album of prog i ask myself since ive had a look at the currently list? When all Yes, all Genesis, all DT and all kc album are on the list it must have gone wrong somewhere. I didnt say thet shouldn't be on the list but not all of them just becuz they are famous or whatever. Sure it's a good idea in theory to let a grading system decided the list, but in reality there is this "5-star abuse" that totally wrecks it. i believe this list makes the wrong impression on new-proggers. It should be more exciting to read a experinced listeners top list...If i have been long enough to decided that this list is IMO incorrect, but not nearly long enough to do my own list...so,if anyone want to share their top 50 list here ill bet the outcoming will totally different

1. There is about 5 new threads with "Top 10 prog album", "what's you favourite prog artist?" a day.

2. In every genre there are some bands that are highly regarded, even though they may not be the best of the genre. In prog, those artists are Genesis, Yes, ELP and Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd to a lesser extent, because it's not really cool to like them when everyone else does.

3. You will never be able to prevent people from making biased reviews and judging music in a poor way. The top 50 list on the site is a list of the 50 albums that have gotten the highest rating amongst albums that are listed on this site, by people who visit this site. Best 50 albums in prog? No.

You are all wrong fellows !

What puts an album in the top 50 (or 100) is the amount of reviews. The mechanism is you time the average rate by the amount of reviews . The higher the score is, the higher the album gets. For example DT's train of thought (is that the name ? well you'll understand anyway) is no' 11 not because of it's average rate (3.0 or close to that) but because more than 200 people reviewd it and gave it a rate while Talk talk's spirit of eden has the average of 4.82 but only by 11 people and it's not on the list.

So, not the inflation of 5 stars but the inflation of many people regarding an album is what make this list as it is. Like everybody else here, I think it's not a perfect list but it is changing all the time anytime someone adds a review. There is no absolute justice !

Obviously its dependant on the amount of reviews and ratings. We don't see any albums in the top 50 list with 1 review and a 5 star rating.
