Topic: Newbie from Germany Posted: May 21 2005 at 08:48 |
Hi to all,
I'm from Oldenburg, Lower Saxony. Northern Germany. I'm listening to
Progressive Rock since 1966. Right now I'm enjoying some of the great
stuff offered by this website. You can see my special favourites on my
website http://www.ottosell.de/music.htm

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome.
Originally I was a blues fan and fanatic zappatista but the late 60s and early 70s have opened my ears. I'm still a big lover of all the Canterbury-stuff. So when I discovered progarchives.com I downloaded a lot of songs I hadn't heard for years, some maybe even for decades. All that great Krautrock I'd never bought because I hadn't the money back then; and my preferences were focused on Zappa, King Crimson and The Allman Brothers Band.
We had a big Prog Rock community here in my hometown back in those days and believe me or not -- I'm still sharing friendship, thoughts, music and other "nice things" with the same group of people for more then 25 years now.
In the 80s I've been a dj and you won't like everything I've played:
The cd and computer "revolution" has been a good thing for the music of my youth, everything's available now or can be produced at home. There is still some good stuff hidden on vinyl that now can be digitalized. My first "project" has been an audio cd of "Mogul Thrash" which became a high-qualtiy cd of a vinyl record I had bought in a basement second-hand record store in London in 1979. The Band is missing in the progarchives so I think I will have to write a review.
But I'm willing to get to know some of the "new" names too. Right now I'm listening to Netherworld's "Isle of Man" -- good stuff. And DREAM THEATER's "Strange Deja Vu" is in my opinion better than their other songs I've heard. More prog than metal.
I have a question concerning all those mp3s -- are they legal? And how can I contribute legally? I'm not using any file-sharing networks nor download illegal stuff (normally).

"AREA: the best Italian band EVER !"
Of course I cannot say if that's right or not, but thanks for the hint. "La Mela Di Odessa" is a good song.
