Just a minor thing here, but still I'm curious: when is an album called an essential masterpiece of progressive rock on our site ? I always thought this was when the average is above 4,5 and the album has at least 25 ratings. But just a minute ago I have seen several examples of averages of 4,25-4,30 and somewhere between 50 and 100 ratings that also have the masterpiece status (shown at the album page).
But the strange thing was that several others had the status of excellent addition of PR. Now that would mean that it's a random matter or otherwise arbitrariness which would be unfair of course.
The third possibility is that it is all a bug and the masterpieces should indeed have an average of at least 4,5 (which would seem logic to me). In that case an admin or M@x should have a look at it I guess.

Which ever it is: I'm curious how this works, is it a technical thing or a manual thing these status descriptions for each album ?

I'm willing to give examples if needed.

^ Interesting exapmles are the current no's 42 til 44 on our all time top 100 list (2 x Marillion, 1 x Riverside). Misplaced Childhood has an average of 4,27 and is called a masterpiece, A Script and Second Life Syndrome have averages of 4,24 (both) and are named excellent additions.
You can run down this list and check any album and it's a total mix of these examples.

I think the divider is 4.25, but that makes much more sense than above 4.5. I can only think of 10 albums (those being the top ten) that have ratings above 4.5

You're right Jeff, just checked it. But still there's something strange going on in that case. No. 42 in our top list ( A Script by Marillion) is right now an excellent addition to a collection and no. 246 (Arcturus, if you expand the list to 250) is a masterpiece. This can never be the intention, right ? Confused

I mean, I'm already confused. Let alone a newbie who would notice this. Can an admin please clarify here ?

It's also based on the number of ratings. You'll notice Arcturus has much fewer ratings. If it didn't work by ratings as well, 5 star albums with only one rating would be at the top of our list.

Sorry but youīre missing the point here Jeff. I know our ratingsystem but the problem here is that low ranked albums can be named masterpiece just because they have an average of 4,26 with 25 ratings.
If an album has an average of 4,25 with 300 reviews itīs called an excellent addition to a collection.
But this album with 300 reviews/ratings is placed 200 places higher in our top 250 of all times.
Thatīs contradictory. Thatīs my point.

The line is 4.25 and 5 or 10 ratings min. for MASTERPIECE STATUS.

We need to draw a line and it's 4.25

Any suggestion ?
