Topic: If only you were given a 1000 weight rating... Posted: August 01 2009 at 17:12 |
So let's say that M@X did a draw, and the winner would get a 1000x weighted rating, but on the condition that only those would count if they were ratings without reviews, would you accept and rate albums without reviews? You would also get a nifty title "Super-Duper 1000 X-Rated Rater" and anyone who questioned any of your ratings out loud (including admin) would be instantly banned. So you could, with that kind of impunity, give, say, all of the popular albums a one, while propelling your favourite obscurities, or well-known albums that are generally very frowned upon, into the top list.
Of course others would resent your powers and you, and might shun you by ignoring you, or scheme behind your backs. Many would leave out of disgust, a great many would stop reviewing, and some might even applaud. People would hate you, and M@X would probably regret his decision. Since the contract was irreversible provided the site remained, he might eventually be forced to do away with the site.
You might be a social pariah. Mind you, you might accept this power so that non one else would get it and choose not to use it, or use it so sparingly and carefully that others would really respect your restraint, and say "Phew, we lucked out that he/she won the draw, it would have really sucked if so-and-so got it" etc..
Would the power corrupt you, would you power the corrupt, or would you corrupt the power?
EDIT: Apologies if this topic is considered too daft and stupid for Just for Fun.

This is a silly poll and I refuse to vote in it unless my vote gets weighted 1000 times more heavily than the other votes.
(So it's "Other" for me.)

I'm blocked by the "Rating without review" rule, which would mean for me to step over my principle of not doing that EVER. Otherwise, Close To The Edge would finally get its drammatic fall.

^ now that I would like to see!
I would be tempted to abuse my position by giving albums rated four-and-over one star, and give the lowest-rated albums five stars.

I'd rate a lot of highly respected albums with a three and watch the storm that ensues

I'd give every album on the site 3 stars.

I'd rate as many as humanly possible.
In all seriousness, we all know that I have the most immpeccible taste, and that the things I like are all masterpieces when we think about it. Thus, I would rate accordingly to fix that top 100.
Sure, it would suck to not be able to write reviews (at least for the really really really good albums) but its a sacrifice I'd be willing to make for the betterment of the site.

Let's hope that this power wouldn't allow the inclusion of Fall out Boy,Panic at the Disco or the Jonas Bros. to the Prog Archives.
