This has been a sh*ttier year that I expected:

Kelly Groucutt (ELO's bassist), James Whitmore (Brooks from Shawshank Redemption), Paul Harvey, John Updike, and Senator Claiborne Pell (creator of the Pell grant for US students).

And of course, Dom Deluise, Bea Arthur, and Jett Travolta.

Also, I don't expect my wife's grandmother to make it through surgey this evening.

This has been a remarkably sh*tty year.

I'm not a pop music fan, but I always did enjoy his songs whenever I'd hear them. Its sad news in any case.

True. LOL

Seriously, though, this whole week has been very sad. They say the celebrity deaths come in threes, but who knew the third death would be so profound?

Very odd, this day . . .

I was watching CNBC and heard this interesting bit of trivia, he was the first black artist to be shown on MTV.  Whatever you think about his personal life or care for his music, you have to respect him as an artist.  Michael Eric Dyson was on and commented that you have to back in music to Mozart to find an artist that started out so young and carried it on to such success in adulthood.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Sad to hear, had a couple of songs I liked way back when (and still enjoy nowadays).

RIP

No disrespect to you two or Michael, but please no!

Sad news indeed. Never owned any albums, but over the years I've bought Beat It, Billie Jean and Smooth Criminal on #7. Apart from those three, this is my favorite:

Its a Jackson Five-track but MJ wrote it, and has the lead vocals. One of the coolest videos ever too.

Rest In Piece. Must have been a complicated life he lived. Atleast he died knowing he had sold out fifty concerts at London's 02 Arena.

Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
