Im in high school and Im in this advanced music class, anyway it focuses on audio editing, recording, and composing. My project right now is to take a bunch of songs and create a kind of musical collage (a la Revolution 9), but with songs and effects (a la Voyage 34). My base song is that long pointless (sry to anyone who enjoys it) end section of King Crimsons Moonchild. So I need to add some other clips of songs to make it cool. Im using this slide in VDGGs Arrow, the weirdo vocals at the starting of 13 angels- A Silver Mt Zion, the scream in Floyds Careful with that axe+ that screwed up duck sound in Bike, and the only spoken part will be from a Harmonium song called Vert. So if anybody has anything that comes to mind please post, no lyrical parts (unless they are in french, i go to french school), preferably psychadelic but no real genre preference. Just reccomend me something that sounds weird/interesting.

"Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict" by Pink Floyd has a couple interesting noises. Try the end of "Misunderstood" by Dream Theater or parts of "Cavalettas" by Mars Volta.
I never thought I'd reccomend these sections of music to anyone for anything.

if you dont have it, Frank Zappa's "Lather" has a lot of material you'd be looking for, especially in between a lot of the songs

I did something similar with some spoken word text. In this case the samples were all taken from King Crimson recordings, and the poem is by Elizabeth Bishop. I presented this piece at a conference on schizophrenia a couple of years ago where it received a standing ovation. Collage is really a fun thing to explore. |

Dunno if this will help, but if you want to hear something interesting with loads of effects (original in the 60s but dated now), you could listen to Deviation Street from Ptooff! The Deviants' Underground Album for some ideas, tho probably not samples.
Good luck - sounds like an interesting project Edited by el dingo - February 02 2009 at 00:37 |

It's not that I can't find worth in anything, it's just that I can't find worth in enough.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor – East Hastings, the ending section (Black Helicopters) may fits your demand! By the way, post-rock has lots of effects that you could use.

I also would suggest Godspeed You! Black Emperor for cool sound effects.
If you want some really cool French vocals, a la Peter Gabriel, I would suggest you look into "Au-Dela Du Delire" by Ange. That is amazing french Prog, with some unique sounds. What school do you go to out of curiosity, i'm in the quebec area as well :P |
