I have to agree with E-Dub and Crimson, Andy Tillison shouldn't be singing.  I loved the beginning of the album right up until he started singing.  I can't understand how musicians of that quality can ignore the fact that he sang the first song off key.

Unfortunately, the repeated vocal gaffes make the album unlistenable for me.

Sure, Tillison should keep improving on his singing technique but I do recognize he's moved on from past works where he sounded off even more out of tune. Still, IMHO I believe instrumentation on NAGATB surpasses all this little lacks of attention and detailing.

I only have A Place In The Queue by these guys.  I really like that album, and have been wondering which would be the best to get next.  Sounds like NAGATB would be a good choice.

My favourites from APITQ are the 2 epics (surprise surprise) so which of theirs would you folks recommend I get, the latest or the earlier ones with Roine.

Sorry about the sidetracking here, but comments would be welcome!!!

^Personally, I'd go for their first, The Music that Died Alone, before any others as its still their best IMO, In Darkest Dreams is an excellent epic. After that I'd go for the new one then The Wourld that we Drive Through last as it seems to suffer from "Flower Kings Syndrome"; too much music, not enough materiel.

The live album, Going Off on One is also great.

Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

Contrary to what Sleeper says, I'd go ahead with Not as Good as the Book. I find it much better in terms of composition, sound, layout, and just about everything. Plus, aside from In Earnest, the song Four Egos, One War is probably their best 20+ minute track ever.

I totally second that LE. If someone wanna get in "The Tanget" ASAP, for me too there's no point in wasting precious minutes of listening on previous releases if you feel like startin' up in the right side. And NAGATB is the one to go with!!!

Not as Good as the Book is close to a masterpiece.
It could be one if  only Tillison could sing on key!
In fact they should either make an all instrumental album or find a correct voice to sing Tillison's lyrics to get the recognition they deserve.
Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it.

Same goes for The Full Gamut, IMO, but the first disc feels a bit tired to me.

Best album of 2008 so far, in my book... which is not as good as their book...
