Jefferson Airplane had their "White Rabbit", H.P. Lovecraft their "White Ship" and It's A Beautiful Day their "White Bird".

All American proto-prog but what is it with that "white" thing? What's the common denominator if there is any?

simple- purity, innocence, virgin

How many blacks are there in metal- good vs evil

Don't forget A Whiter Shade of Pale and Knights in White Satin

Could have been a brown rabbit...

What happened after the White rabbit enticed Alice down the rabbit hole- caterpillars smoking hash, queen's chopping off heads, deceipt in the form of a cat, walruses murdering oysters. The white rabbit represented Alice's loss of innocence, which is why she couldn't catch it. But then again it could be just a good story.

The White Album. Haven't thought of that one. I heard the sleeve ended up all white as a contrast to the colorful Sgt. Pepper sleeve which was being imitated immensely by others. Of course Lennon had his white period too at this time But I think heroin had replaced LSD.

POI: Great Society (with Grace Slick) did the definitive White Rabbit - by the time Grace Slick moved to JA, she appears to have become bored to death doing the song.

You should've made a poll out of this..... Big%20smile
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Thought of a couple more from the era:

Cream's White Room
Animals' White Houses

Of course it eventually turned to black:

Led Zep's Black Dog

Wikipedia on "White Rabbit":

"...the music combined with the song's lyrics strongly suggest the sensory distortions experienced with hallucinogens and the song was later utilized in pop culture to imply or accompany just such a state."

Hmmm. Makes sense considering those artists who used "white" in their song titles.

I don't know White Bird but the other two are literary references.
"The disgusting stink of a too-loud electric guitar.... Now, that's my idea of a good time."

Jimmy Page wrote and recorded "White Summer" with The Yardbirds in 1967. Later performed live with Led Zeppelin.
