Sal Marquez........(for the final trumpet notes of 'Blessed Relief' from the 'Grand Wazoo' album.)

It's really hard to pick favourites from Zappa musicians. They all had SOMETHING to offer, otherwise Frank would'nt have used them, but these are MY faves.

George Duke

Or, the band on One Size Fits All. They work so perfectly together there that it's impossible to exclude anyone from there. And sorry about the links, I copied and pasted from Wikipedia.

If your talking One Size ... don't forget Johnny Guitar Watson, the man who pushes it over the top, too bad he is only on two songs.

What is his actual role in the album? I was curious, and I wikipediaed it and tried some other sources, but it just says he was present on a couple songs. Who is he, what does he do?

Johnny Guitar Watson was an old school classic blues/RnB guy who worked out of LA. I collect his albums, the album covers are classic. He is always dressed like a 70s pimp caricuture with the expected group of 'ladies' and always appears to have a great sense of humour and the music inside is always excellent. His voice and persona belong to a time and culture that no longer exists except in backwater towns in the southern US.

He does that incredible vocal improv on the jam at the end of San Bernardino ( "that's where they put all the cars that you hurt" ha ha, what the hell is that, ha ha) and also shows up on that song about Andy, he comes in during that break "Andy! ... Andy Andy!    and so on.

I've never 'pimped' one of my reviews before, but you might enjoy reading my review of One Size ... it is an incredible album.
