Does anbody know this band?

I learned with one of my friend that this band was the true creator of the Stairway to heaven famous riff!!!  And my friend got the proof by owning the first CD and doing some research!!!

Here's the explanation: Spirits is some sort of Prog rock/Psychedelic rock band from California. There first album was out in 1968 and one of their song have the Stairway to heaven riff, in the same tonality, A minor!!!!  Stairway to heaven was recorded three or four years later!!!!

Another thing, in 68, Led zeppelin and Spirits did a tour in the US together and Led zeppelin at that time was already doing a Spirits Cover song in their tour!!!

This is shocking!!!!

But anyway, Why is this band is so obscure and not known, I'm poor on Internet Research so I found nothing about them, All i got is to listen to their first CD a couple of time with my friend, don't remember the name of it

Could somebody do some research on this and maybe this band could be a cool addition to the Archives

They did a prog related album in 68!  This is one year before the mark of the first prog album (ITCOTCK)

There was a psychedelic band from Cali in the '60s/'70s called "Spirit" (not "Spirits"; at least I haven't found any mention of them) who released their debut in '68. What was the "Stairway" track called?

edit: it is the right band, the track is called "Taurus". Searching now.

Blimey , when the name Spirits came up I thought we were dealing with some obscure band, the likes of  the French label  Musea issues (e.g. Spirits Burning). But when I discovered we are talking the Spirit, I'm sorry I have to say , some musical education and catch up is recommended strongly here - and that also might help reduce some of those recent really daft suggestions for band inclusion on the archives.  Spirit is up there with the Doors for West Coast  Psychedelia (although we might be talking Moby Grape, if Skip Alexander Spencer had stayed mentis compis), they released one of the classic albums of 1971 12 Dreams Of Dr Sardonicus - an album that suggested an American psychedelic band might have gone prog, if they had stayed together. A Brit band ripped off Spirit's Fresh Garbage last summer for a hit single.

However, having been ahead of the queue for accusing Led Zeppelin of being a major rip off band (and I'm so glad Willie Dixon successfully sued them and only wished Bert Jansch had done the same for Black Mountain Side), I've just run Taurus (on the excellent double compo from Sony Legacy Time Circle), on the CD player, and have to say the link is tenuous
