Well, I've narrowed it down to 2 synths: the korg microkorg and the alesis micron, since they are both in my price range, and have some great features that you find in expensive synths. Which one do you think would be the best buy?

Mustaine, there are two excellent articles so you can compare them: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan05/articles/alesismicron.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Jan03/articles/microkorg.asp I played both and like both |

I would endorse the third option: save your money and buy a real synth instead of a little toy. A used Roland JP-8000 costs less than $500, and would be a much better investment in the long run.
If you really want to get one of these two, get the Ion. I've never played one, but a.) Alesis makes pretty good stuff, and b.) it's gotta be better than the bare-bones microKorg... |
