Apple has just announced the release in about 2 weeks (in the U.S.) of the thinnest laptop ever -- the MacBook Air. This is just 0.76 inches (1.93 centimeters) thick. The catch: $1799 and doesn't have a CD drive, which can be separately purchased. Any comments on this?

Sounds like it's cool and overpriced - a bona fide Apple product.

It's about the same price as the Sony ones, so I might get one for when I transfer to a university.
The laptop that I use weighs about eight pounds and has a crappy battery life.

Make sure to get it with the 64 GB solid state HD...a bargain at only $1000 extra!

No CD drive? Then it's utterly useless. I love my MacBook, but I think what they had was light enough. Plus, Mac sells its battery big, and I've found out that it degenerates just as fast as other batteries.

I have a MacBook Pro and am happy with it -- and it's CD drive.

I just bought a Mac Powerbook and am happy so far. Runs all of my graphics software perfectly (getting CS3 here on Thursday).
