I write very well (seriously, you should read some of my grade 11 english assignments Tongue )

The problem is, I cant think of a good idea to write about. I'm finding it difficult to find an idea that feels like a good creative outlet for me. Dickens' advice was to "write what you know" (at least it might have been Dickens) but to tell the truth, it doesn't really feel like anything interesting enough has happened to me yet write something good about. I just cant find a good source of inspiration. I just dont really feel strongly enough about anything to write a good song about.

Does anyone else have this problem? Where do you generally get inspiration from? Is there anything that helps you to think of things to write about?

Any feedback would be greatly apprecitiated!Smile

The Prog way is very similar to the Pop way, but with slight variations and differences:

Person meets person of the opposite sex; person has intense realtionship with person of the opposite sex while discussing the philosophical essence of being; person loses person of the opposite sex after a needless and sensless argument over salted or unsalted butter; person writes deep and meaningful lyrics concerning the fickle nature of love and the loose morals of persons of the opposite sex while lamenting the declining standards inherrant with living within a post-modern society plagued by the twin mores of group-censorship and personnal inhibitions whilst mankind is under attack from exceptionally large venomous plants.

Alternativley just write down lots of phrases and couplets as they come randomly into your head until inspiration strikes.
What?

Take a look out the window. What do you see?
The scattered jigsaw of my redemption laid out before my eyes
Each piece as amorphous as the other - Each piece in its lack of shape a lie

Personally, I tend to write lyrics in an escapist fashion. So, much of the time, my lyrics are fiction based and I also tend to write from a light hearted standpoint in the fashion of Zappa, where he may address a serious issue, but do it in a comedic fashion.
Because of the fictional aspect I like to use, sometimes I find it helps to write out a story, then turn that to a song.
Usually I'll get an idea for one line and the rest will just flow. Sometimes I get stuck and I'll have to put it down for a few days or even months until the right time comes.
I guess using the method of a fictional story could work for you if you're short on ideas. Otherwise, to make it seem like a good prog song, just look up the biggest words you can find and right them down randomly so everyone will marvel at how deep and meaningful and artsy you are.
