I guess this is as good as any forum to throw this in.
Question for any of you who might feel PC knowledgable. I know I normally feel this way but I am stumped. I run a full virus scan every week and have a resident program, Microtrend Officescan, always running. I boot every morning. When just about every is done loading, my computer says "Good Morning Richard". The very first time I heard this, it also said "I am now deleting all files on your computer." But that was the only time and nothing happened. The voiceis one of those computer synthesis voices, like in MS Office.
I scoured all processes using task manager and have found there is one program that is running and everyday it renames itself. Its always five characters long. Like 5OT8W.exe one day and maybe BNS97.exe the next.
Any clues? Any help one can offer?

are you running a virus checker - you can download a free one called AVG from here: http://free.grisoft.com/
It probably won't remove the virus as these types of virii are insideous little devils, but it should help you identify it further so you can target the source of the virus on you hard disc.

Yep, try AVG and make sure you keep it updated. Hopefully it's just a joke.

I think it's just a joke one, but it seems like a clever one. Try AVG first as people said. I don't use AVG myself so I'm not aware of it's abilities.
I'd loveto see what your computer says about it when you go to management tools and open the first choise in the first one. (sh*t, why the hell do they make these in Finnish by default. The computer is full of words that have no meaning.) Anyway, there's a long list of executables or applications with time, source, user and type in some order. I'm pretty sure you'll find an error on the type section to this application somewhere. If you do, can you open the properties and for example paste it here. I'd love to see it, and most probably would enlighten it a bit. Also, even though it does seem to create the path name randomly, you could probably track it down with google if you could find out the path of it Also, I might be suffering from memory loss mysef at the moment, but I just adjusted some several exes to not start at startup or ever unless I do that myself. could have been through tunexp or some other registry program that I play around with. I usually delete my own viruses (yeah, I do a lot fo internet porn) manually because the virusprograms don't always do it that well. Besides it's fun.
