Alright, I've had this terrible Silvertone bass from a starter kit since I started playing bass at age 11. Looking to finally upgrade, something with a deep, emanating tone, like the intro to "Sober" - Tool.
I've been mostly looking into Ibanez basses, mostly because they're cheaper than a lot of models and they work well for me. Any suggestions? |

I'm seriously considering a Hamer bass. Good sound and good bass for the money. |

Check out SX basses, which feature a lot of bang for the buck. They are sold by Rondo Music. Here is their website. http://www.rondomusic.net/ However, they also list a lot of instruments on Ebay. http://stores.ebay.com/Rondo-Music-On-Line

here's my bass, an active Ibanez SR300GLX - it has an 8.9 rating on Harmony Central if you believe those - i haven't had it long but find it very user - friendly, with a slim narrow neck and 24 frets should you need that many! The Fender Jazz Bass also has a great reputation, may try one in the future.

An Ibanez is a good buy. Just avoid the cheapest models. I had an Ibanez ATK 600 from 1996, a really good bass. I traded it for an older Ibanez (which I kind of regret doing). The ATK-series have recently been taken into production again, I haven't tried any of the new ones but I'm sure they're as good as they once were.
I also own a Fender Classic Series Jazz Bass, light years beyond the Standard Series also manufactured in Mexico. They cost a bit more but they are definitely worth the extra money, they are as good as the US-made instruments. Yamaha's BB-series (I think that's what they're called) are good instruments too. Stay away from Epiphone. |

the Ibanez is a rather unforgiving for inaccurate fretting - good training discipline i suppose, but is great in other areas - lovely tone though lighter in weight and not as loud as a Fender so needs a big amp.
