The picture on the right could just as easily have been taken in Essex - or Reading town centre - or - (insert UK place with too many embarassing chavs wandering the streets)

Dunno if a European version exists, but if you read British newspapers or watch British TV you somehow wind up with the impression that the Atlantic Ocean is about 20 miles wide and that mainland Europe is at least 3000 miles away. Oddly enough, a similar situation exists in Japan, where the Pacific Ocean is apparently the size of a Koi pond and the Sea of Japan is half a light year away from Kores and China.
