On one hand, I can understand some prog DVD-related topics being moved here...  "Oh, did you see Adrian Belew's -hair- on Eyes Wide Open?  He looks like a mad scientist!" and such.

But often, when I come to discuss a prog DVD...  it's the performance itself, the -music-, but it's treated differently than a live album, despite myself (and many people!) listening to it far more than watching it.

Just wondering, because I just grabbed the Decemberists' new DVD, and I'm loving it, and I'll probably start a discussion on it soon, because the -performance- is so great, and I think it would be an insult to it to be put here in the "non-music" prog lounge, when it's the music itself that's worth discussing.  Ouch

I dunno. Admin -  Why ? There is music on DVDs, or at least most, not counting the unauthorized ones who usually have snippets at best.

Not sure I understand the question, but if you are discussing a specific DVD, then the best place for that would be the Prog recommendations section.

If you are discussing only the visual aspects of a band performance, then that's a non-music discussion.

By the way, as this thread is about site policy, it too is in the wrong section!Wink

Ok, my view....contraversy time... Wink
Its a Catch 22 situation.....if all the topics were to be started in one area then new ones would rapidly disappear off the first page without getting a fair chance. Some people use the active topics button but most do not. Therefore we divide the forum into zones or areas.Regular users should know to either use the active topics button  Active%20TopicsActive Topics or check out each forum zone individually for new topics etc..

Ok contoversy time....some people only want to post in the Prog Lounge because they feel that's the best place to get maximum exposure for their thoughts...in my view that's a rather pompous and self-indulgent attitude to take...usually the offenders are noobs. Occasionally it is experienced members who do this and it is very frustrating for the Mod Team. I am beginning to think that all topics started in the wrong place by senior members and above should just be moved without adding the "moved" sign or any kind of explanation. Some forums delete all topics started in the wrong place....it always amuses me when members shout out that they should be informed when their topics are moved, that's utter rubbish - they should put them in the correct place in the first place and if unsure they should contact a member of the Admin Team.

Zero tolerance I say..Wink

Good points Tony, I don't think it is appreciated how much time we spend tidying up.

Your point about threads dropping off quickly is very valid. Threads will actually have more chance a long life if they are in slightly less active sections, as they will remain towards the top of that section longer.

I completely understand that.

I've just wondered why topics about musical performances have traditionally been taken to the non-music lounge.
