When I read the topic of this thread I thought you were saying prog was somehow the opposite of emo, and I was very confused...unless you are talking about the quality of the bands identified as such. I'm more pessimistic than not. When I sound optimistic it's more "this will be over in two days and then everything will be okay," which I wouldn't call actual optimism.

Im not pssimistic.... but I cant stand those optimistic naive jerks that thing that you cant bring them down I also cant stand those over the top pessimistics with whom you cant hold two words without them letting you know how sh*tty everything is... I also cant stand My Chemical Romance

I dislike emo music, but I'm very pessimistic, though not in the "I'm going to kill myself because there's nothing to live for in life" sort of way, but in the Schopenhauer's Pessimism sort of way

I can't even fake being pessimistic. People say I look too happy. And I really am happy...

I'm very optimistic most of the time. But I am very pessimistic about certain things.

I'm always joking around and laughing, but I guess I can show pessimism to certain things. People always say I'm too happy for metal, yet my favorite band is Opeth (as seen in the signature). When I'm in a bad mood though, Look out!

Don't know for sure about optimism and pessimism, but I'm definitely more of a realist than an idealist. I see things the way they are, and if they're good, I'm optimistic, if not, I'm pessimistic. That said, things usually turn out so that I'm most often pessimistic.

I'm an optimistic person, but with plenty of cynical/pessimist streaks. I guess I'm in the middle, but I like to stay on the bright side of things.

None of these choices are emo, emo is 'pretending to be pessimistic/sad'

I consider myself to be very pessimistic; I've lost faith in the system and as a result find myself increasingly disillusioned. However; in order to retain my sanity I will have to develop some sort of positive ideals to work towards in spite of the plastic nature of Western society...there are good people, and good inspirations to focus on, I just tend to look at everything that has gone wrong as opposed to what has gone right. I'm a work in progress...

Very pessimistic in the short run; very optimistic in the long run.

Pessimistic. I find that it is smart to have a pessimist view on things. Actually I'm between pessimistic and somewhereinbetween, but rather a pessimist.
But surely not emo. At least from my view on me.
