Topic: Which is the best database? Posted: January 28 2005 at 07:46 |
A technology poll, as you can see. Which is the best database, and which the most mockable?
For instance, I myself find Oracle as the phonniest database ever... it trays to look like greenlander server 2, but it is anything else...

Young Susie was having trouble with her so she called Wes, the
guy, over to her desk. Wes clicked a couple buttons and solved the
problem. As he was walking away Susie called after him, "So, what was
wrong?"
And he replied, "It was an 'ID ten T' error."
A puzzled expression ran riot over Susie's face. " 'An ID ten T' error? What's that, in case I need to fix it again?"
He gave her a grin. "Haven't you ever seen an 'ID ten T' error before?"
Susie replied, "No."
"Write it down," he said, "and I think you'll figure it out."

I guess it's a case of horses for courses. Most people will feel the "best" one is the one they are used to.
I notice you didn't list MS Access, any reason? Most home users who use databases will probably be more familiar with that I would think.
I used to use an old DOS based database called Dataease. It was at one time way ahead of the rest, but the makers seemed to let it get overtaken by the Windows based applications.

So nobody notices the intention under my poll... well, let us discuss about tech: I find ms access a nice software developement application, but limited for business purpouses. I use it in very puntual situations, for little projects, but when it comes to manage a high number of transactions I prefer perhaps Sql Server, or Oracle.
