There are A LOT of prog releases in DVD form, making this format indispensable.

Pioneer is definetly the brand which is the most advanced in this domain.

The good news is that even their ridiculous price (less than 100€) entry-level DVD players already feature excellent image quality.



The big weakness of DVD players is the sound, but Pioneer manage to make decent sounding entry-level players.


The higher you go in the range, the best the sound and image will be, until their top-level models.






Most users will use the Peritel link, whereas S-VHS is the top.
A huge and cheap upgrade in image and sound would be a « Monster cable » quality Peritel cable.
While this brand is not recommened for audio links, they do quality affordable Peritel cables (around 40/50€).





For those who want to use the external RCA output from their DVD players to link to their amp or preamp, a cheap and musical modulation cable remains the QED models, such as the « Qnex1 », « Qnex2 », « Qnex3 » models.





Another huge and cheap image/sound upgrade for the DVD player is a quality power cable, such as an

What do you mean by that:

Still I think that a VGA connection is better than any expensive video cable ... it can only be beaten by a digital DVI connection. After all, DVD is a digital source, and to convert it to analog and transfer it through a cable which was designed for lower resolutions is not exactly ideal ...

This 800€ cable makes your 1000€ device works like
a 2000€ one.

I don't dare to tell you about 3000€ power cables...

They are used by the best studio...i've personally heard some and it's really amazing how it boost a system. Just one on the preamp and the system explodes!! A full line is beyond words...

My own ones are:
-Speakers cables: "Esoteric audio" 150€/meter (X 3 cause i'm in bi wiring with double cable in the low)

-Modulation interconect: "Esoteric audio" 700€/meter with WBT Topline interconnects.

-Power cables Only 60€ meter, but i'm about to upgrade to 300€/meter (little) "Transparent" ones.



I know an audiophile who has maybe the best system in the country, he owns for more than 300 000€ of cables, including 30 000€ Transparent speakers cables reference, and the guy is in bi-cabling, so you can mulltipy by two

DVD stores a component video signal in digital format. Since this is the native video format that is stored on DVD, this is also the best format to use to display the picture, if your equipment is capable of dealing with this type of signal.
