The Dance Of Eternity

Being in love as I am these days (discussion is open in another thread), and being a music lover too, I am temporarily obsessed with a song; only thing is that, rather than cry my eyes dry listening to heart-breaking ballads, at every opportunity I put on DT's "The Dance Of Eternity" from SfaM... I must have listened to it at least 10 times in the car, going and coming from work, plus another 10 times at home from the hi-fi system or watching the DVD... This, in two days.

I don't know why, but this piece of music now seems to fit my momentary feelings so well... And it's been with me for 7 years now!

Has the same ever happened to you?

True, and for sure other songs from other artists are welcome in the thread.
What made me think was the association my subconscious mind must have made to make me listen to that song while I'm in this state...
That's the trick, "The Dance Of Eternity" has nothing to do with love, so why I'm so fascinated with it?

I agree. I think the intensity a song yields to its listener is furthered, when in contact with reality and experience, on moments of simillarity to the tune's concept, thus the listener would present more attention and affinity to the song than before he/she had a "common ground" to relate to. Sometimes, however, the melody's theme isn't the least congruent to our concrete (or even abstract) emotions, but still produces this effect - perhaps, our mind subconsciously links a certain piece of music (or any specific element of reality) to a certain event, where the music was played during its occurance, thus becoming a vivid part of the recollection, in these circumstances.
Dance of Eternity (both the track and the theme), although, hasn't much of a correlation to romantic/healthy love, whilst portrayed by DT, as it recurs to more of a perilous and fearsome image of this sentiment, nearly taken to the state of a disease; so (to tortellino), I would imagine that you feel no sense of love in the song's meaning, but maybe something that triggered those emotions happened while you were listening or thinking about it.
I had a vaguely simillar experience with a lyrically incompatible song, if not for the chorus: Van Halen's Can't Stop Loving You.......thought this thread needed a couple of laughs.

Agreed. I 're-discovered' Hymn to the Atman from Kansas Song for America a few years ago and the build-up at the end got to me just as it had when I first heard it thirty years ago as a teenager. Same with Gates of Delirium from Yes Relayer. To use the lingo of my generation, Gates is a 'bitchen' tune!

Mmmm... only song I truely got addicted to, to the point that I could listen to it a few times a day, or in loops was ELP's "The Only Way". I ussualy can't listen to the same song over and over again in a short period of time... But "The Only Way"... God... There was like a week that I opened my MP3 and all I had was this urging desire to listen to The Only Way... and nothing else could satisfy me... I felt like a serious drug addict... twas pretty sick :P
