First of all, order online... It's cheaper and they have obscure stuff.
Secondly, every person on earth should own In the Court of the Crimson King. Larks' Tongues in Aspic is also excellent. If you're looking for Yes music, get Close to the Edge, Tales from Topographic Oceans and Relayer.
If you want Genesis, get Selling England by the Pound if you don't already have it... it's the best one.

If you're looking for stuff in store, it depends on the store, but hopefully you'll be able to find:
King Crimson: In the Court of the Crimson King or Lark's Tongue in Aspic
Yes: Close to the Edge or Relayer
Porcupine Tree: In Absentia, Deadwing or The Sky Moves Sideways
Rush: A Farewell to Kings or Hemispheres
Pick and choose depending on avaliability. All of these albums are excellent!

KC - Nothing
VdGG - Nothing
Yes - CttE, Highlights
Just about nothing, really. I'd like to hear some more symphonic that I may have neglected before. Possibly prog-folk as well. But, as said, I'll try anything. |
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King, Red, Lark's Tongues in Aspic, Discipline
VdGG - that's one band I have yet to truly get into so I'll pass on that one.
Yes - Fragile, The Yes Album

ELP - Trilogy Focus - Hamburger Concerto Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste Gryphon - Red Queen to Gryphon Three
As a few suggestion of what I consider to be some essential recordings between E & G.

I'm a bit different, but these are my favorites: (in order)
King Crimson 1) In the Court of the Crimson King 2) Islands 3) In the Wake of Poseidon
VDGG 1) Godbluff 2) H to He Who Am the Only One 3) Still Life
A lot of people recommended In the Court already. I would say that one is a MUST!

If you don't consider yourself a Camel fan (yet ), I wouldn't go to their 80's stuff, but you might enjoy Rajaz and A Nod And A Wink. Raindances is worth a try as well

Sound advise. I'm not into Gentle Giant or Renaissance much as a whole, but I'll admit those are two very good records.
Gentle Giant has a way of growing on you, and as far as Renaissance goes, Annie Haslam's voice is simply beautiful and the band with the orchestra is breath taking. I don't think anyone who enjoys prog should be without this recording.
As for the Yes and King Crimson, those two are deffinitely the way to go for those artists.
