I use speakers only because the only head phones I would use would be ear buds(Not very fitting) or the noice canceling ones that cover the whole ear for $100.

I use the headphones with my computer (Thin walls in my building), and with my iPod. I use it a lot too (I don't drive). But, I do prefer the speakers. I think I get a fuller sound from the acoustics. Sadly, I can only use them during the day, so as not to bug my neighbors.

Headphones, although when at home I use the DVD surround sound. Sounds great.

I would have said speakers a while ago, but I've really moved towards headphones recently, mostly due to my constant use of my iPod. While I do have an iPod dock, which is now my main source of speaker-sound above my CD stereo, listening to music on headphones is just an amazing, isolated experiance that I enjoy having. I can't listen to bands like Sigur Ros, Godspeed, or any other bands with a lot of 'bells and whistles' in their music on regular speakers, because much of those sounds are lost. I also enjoy the feeling that i alone am the only one hearing the music playing.

Ooh forgot about that... DVD Surround Sound special albums (such as The Flaming Lips' Soft Bulletin or Yoshimi, as well as Porcupine Tree's Deadwing and Stupid Dream) sound tremendous on a beefed-up surround sound system.
