INFO: http://www.mahavishnuproject.com
hello!
some of you have met me or said hello here, my name is Andre' Cholmondeley. I play in a band called Project/Object (Zappa Repertoire) and I work booking/production and publicity for several other artists., including Al Di Meola. On the recent summer USA and the upcoming fall USA/EU tours i am have served/am serving as Al's guitar tech/tour manager.
I also do some booking/publicity for the MAHAVISHNU PROJECT - and I just wanted to make sure you know about these incredible shows coming up by the "PROJECT" - playing the Music Of John McLaughlin & Mahavishnu Orchestra. The band also features Project/Object bassist David Johnsen ..
Thanks for your time. reading this, really. I figure -- there is certainly a lot of fellow GUITAR NUTS in here... by all means - check these guys out, they rip!! Guitarist Glenn Alexander (www.glennalexander.com) has to be heard to be believed. People in the NJ area will remember Glenn's long running band called STRETCH with legendary bassist Dave LaRue (Steve Morse band, Dixie Dregs, Pat Travers, Vinnie Moore, currently with Joe Satriani).
These guys just brought down the house in a PACKED BB King's performance with JAN HAMMER, who of course is the original Mahavishnu Orchestra keyboardist/synthesist.
Please drop me a line if you need more info!!
Regards, Andre

By popular demand, MAHAVISHNU PROJECT will reprise last summer's incredible multi-day celebration of the music of JOHN McLAUGHLIN and the MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA. Last years' Vishnu-Fest was attended by 3 of the original band-members, Rick Laird, Jan Hammer & primary composer/guitarist John McLaughlin, smiling in appreciation all night long. With rave reviews coming in from all sides and a successful Northeast tour under their belts - the band was called upon by Original keyboard-player Jan Hammer --to be his backing band at MOOGFEST 2006.
The near-sold out show had Jan also smiling from ear-to-ear as the band accurately brought to life a diverse set of his original music, right after they brought the house down with their set of Mahavishnu classics, with Synthesist Adam Holzman http://www.adamholzman.com whipping his MOOG VOYAGER thru the changes as Jan once did on his Minimoog. Adam's improvisational wizardry has also been seen in Wayne Shorter's group, as well as with CHAKA KHAN, ROBBEN FORD, and almost five years playing keys with 'the Master' - Miles Davis. Bassist David Johnsen hails from Zappa tribute band PROJECT/OBJECT, while Violinist Rob Thomas http://www.robthomasviolin.com has done stints with ANDY SUMMERS and TITO PUENTE. The daunting guitar-chair is ably handled by ace axe-slinger Glenn Alexander, who has brought his raw/refined six-string fire to the band in between his gigs with LA BAMBA, SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY, LEVON HELM, and THE COALITION, a consortium of musicians from Saturday Night Live and Conan O'Brien's killer bands. Finally, band founder/leader Gregg Bendian http://www.greggbendian.com needs little introduction, as his journey around the musical map has been well documented, with stops including CECIL TAYLOR, DEREK BAILEY, ALEX CLINE, WILLIAM PARKER, and PAT METHENY.
All this ensures that the Vishnu-Fest is a show NOT to be missed! On Fri July 14, for the performance of the COMPLETE album -"Visions Of The Emerald Beyond" - the core band will be joined by a String Quartet, a soprano vocalist, and horns, including PREMIK RUSSELL TUBBS, who played on the original album.
NOTE: The Vishnu-Fest is ALL AGES --this is a special opportunity for fans of all generations to check out the show.
