Topic: "ABWH" or "Evening of Yes Music" Posted: December 11 2004 at 20:30 |
I enjoy Anderson Bruford Wakeman & Howe's "Evening of Yes Music Plus" CD
and was wondering if it is worth it to purchase the "ABWH" studio recording?

I recommend it, there are many excellent tracks.
IMO, Quartet is among the best "Yes" tracks.

That was a great concert! I jizzed when Rick walked over to his L-shaped rig for his solo, was playing some legato melody on the lower synth on his Apex column, and his right hand rose to the keyboard atop it and he started playing a signature speedy riff.
But his solo on the Union tour was even better. It was amazing. It was the best solo of the night. Rick was just rippin'!

ABWH made a great album, one of my altime favourites, although it sounds a bit dated IMO. If you like the concert album then you already know how some of the songs sound, the studio recordings of these songs are equaly good if not better.

^ 'sokay.
Saw them on the tour and it was good but I wasn't too fussed about the album. However in the light of this thread, I'll give it another listen.

Their studio album is one of my favourites of my CD collection, with songs like "Brother of Mine", "Birthright", "The Meeting", "Quartet", "Teakbois", "Let`s Pretend". The live versions of "Brother of Mine" and "Birthright" are better, but they lack Tony Levin because he was ill in the day of that concert and he was replaced by Jeff Berlin, who did a good job.

Guillermo ABWH is a very fine album with all those tracks you mentioned at the time of it's release. It was like mannah from heaven considering the AOR garbage plied by the RABIN era prior to the real YES coming back onto the scene.

I thought Birthright and Fist of Fire were in the vein of Classic Yes, but the rest of the album was, for lack of a better term, wimpy. There was a lack of fire in the playing, no real punch. I guess I better listen to it again and maybe edit this post, eh?

I still like some of the RABIN era songs, but I prefer ABWH. Maybe the ABWH studio album sounds dated today, but I still like it.

Good idea Danbo Cast your mind back to those dark Yes days, not much hope around and then this little gem springs out.

I always saw ABWH as the real Yes in exile. Theclosest to the real band but who couldn't use the name.
Refreshing album after the dark poppy Rabin years.

Rabin is not so bad person...
Of course, I prefer Howe much more, but aren't CHANGES, CINEMA, THE MORE WE LIVE and especially ENDLESS DREAM masterpieces?!
