I've always loved that 1st Maiden album. It was raw, direct & energetic with a punkish atitude for a metal band. Although Harris dismissed the producer's role as nothing more than, "one more take guys" while reading the paper, I can't say that the band didn't come through big time. I prefer the Eddie on this cover, Paul D'Ianno's singing, & while it would be interesting to see what the guitars & bass could have sounded like properly produced, at the same time, it could have easily made a mess of it if done by the wrong person (essentially trying to commercialize the sound, soften the raw edges, etc...)
For those musicians out there, see if you can hear the Celtic melody on Transylvannia. I had to play a simple chorded arrangement on acoustic, but my friends were freaked when they got it. If you need help, listen to Thin Lizzy's Emerald for a comparison as far as the Celtic thing.

I really dont like this band, but, the only album than I can listen from them is "The number of the beast", I consider it the best of Iron Maiden
