Topic: Presto Ballet Posted: May 08 2006 at 21:34 |
I know this whole genre debate thing is very subjective but I really DO NOT see how you can classify Presto Ballet as "symphonic prog". Do you REALLY think they are in the same sound genre as Anglagard, 70's Genesis, PFM, Yes or Camel? They sound much more like Rush, Styx, Deep Purple, Triumph and a mainstream Kansas. Presto Ballet is a very good band but with their crunching guitar attack and screaming Hammonds and chorus verse chorus songs, I don't see them being in the symphonic category.

Best of 2006 that I've heard:
PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione
Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album)
Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific
2007:
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo

Agreed. They should either be moved to Neo Prog or to Prog Metal.

I agree as well, but I am not sure to which of the two that you mentioned Mike.
At first I was under the impression that this is a prog metal act, but after a few listens I am not that convinced, but I have no special objections to it being there.

It's Neo Prog Metal, somewhere between Arena and Ayreon. It makes sense to add it to Neo Prog and move it to Prog Metal as soon as it has been split (whenever that happens).

It's funny, I also thught this sounds a bit similar in guitar sound to Arena's Pepper Ghost and at the same time with metal qualities in it.
Anyway, I think that for now, Neo-prog is most suitable and the best compromise/option.

Let's wait for a couple of days, and if there are no objections, I'll move them to Neo-Prog.
