Topic: American Idiot Posted: April 13 2006 at 13:18 |
I know that Green Day and American Idiot get a lot of bad rep on this site,
but lets think about it, would we rather them to come out with another
Dookie?
For me at least, I think it's good that a mainstream act with a lot of power
(such as Green Day) is forwarding fans and introducing them to a concept
album and songs that are longer than 3 minutes with different
movements (something they probably didn't know existed.) This may get
them into modern prog bands such as Coheed and maybe even the Mars
Volta. That could lead them to begin listening to prog.
At the very least I think that it could open people's minds. It's much better
that they're doing something that's remotely thought provocing. What do
you all think?

First choice.
I don't really hate Green Day, just their music does absolutely nothing for me (old and new).

First choice. Green Day, for who they are, really aren't that bad. Their music always had more feeling to it than the average mainstream rock group. I think it's very cool that they did a concept album.

I love GD, saw them last September on the AI tour at Giants Stadium, great show.
I've been a fan of The Clash since '79, and GD have carried that punk torch better than anyone else since.
AI is a brilliant album. No, it's not prog, and some of the prog-snobs here may not like it, but last I checked, you're allowed to like whatever you want.

I think it's OK, but far from great!
Dookie, however, is excellent!

Yeah I just think that people are a little harsh on the band. At least theyre
pushing things forward for SOME people.
