I'm suprised there aren't already threads on this subject. I was at the show on April 1st and i thought it was amazing! Their setlist was...

(20th Anniversary tape intro – In The Name of God outro tape)

The Root of All Evil

I Walk Beside You

Another Won

Afterlife

Under A Glass Moon

Innocence Faded

Raise The Knife

The Spirit Carries On

- intermission -

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence:

Overture (orchestra only)

About To Crash

War Inside My Head

The Test That Stumped Them All

Goodnight Kiss

Solitary Shell

About To Crash (Reprise)

Losing Time/Grand Finale

Vacant

The Answer Lies Within

Sacrificed Sons

Octavarium

Encore:

Metropolis Pt. 1

* The 20+ piece “Octavarium Orchestra” played with DT for the entire second set and encore.

Any thoughts???

Here's some of my thoughts...

As for the setlist I was very satisfied except for a few minor things:

1. I absolutely loved how they played "Raise The Knife" - (I saw them "pull one out of the archives" last sunday in NJ and they played "Speak To Me"... not one of my favs) - but I would have liked them to then do a song from FII like "Just Let Me Breathe" or "Peruvian Skies".

2. As much as I love "The Spirit Carries On", i would have rather liked to see "Through My Words/Fatal Tragedy" or "Home". I mean, it seems like they were choosing songs that weren't already on the recent fan club DVD, Gigantour DVD, or Budakon... like These Walls, Panic Attack, Never Enough... so why did they include TSCO when its already on the fan club DVD???

3. On the same note as my previous complaint, they weren't trying to repeat songs that are already on recent or upcoming DVDs. But I would have liked to see the play "Vacant" into "Stream of Consciousness" (even though its on Budakon)... it doesn't make sense to play "Vacant" alone. That's like playing "Horizons" and not following with "Supper's Ready"! So they hardly represented Train of Though. That was probably my biggest dissappointment.

4. One more small thing, I think their encore was not enough (haha, i dont wanna become a "never enough" fan... but...) all they played was Metropolis Pt. 1 and they didnt mess with it at all! They played it completely straight, nothing for April Fool's or not even "goodbyes" during the last section after the instrumentally craziness.

Other than that, I was more than ecstatic to here songs like "Under A Glass Moon", "Innocence Faded", "Raise The Knife", "Six Degrees", "Sacrificed Sons", and of course "Octavarium"!!!!

I was there and I agree with your points. Overall I thought it was a great
show. "Under a Glass Moon" was my favorite with "Octavarium" (it sounded
great with the orchestra. Did you happen to pick up the "Dark Side" cover
album? It's really an interesting pick up, I like it a lot. I think I'm gonna make
a separate thread about it.

I was there.  I actually landed two tenth row center seats walking innocently into Radio City a 4:30 and asking, "has anything come in for tonight." What are the chances that will happen if I go for Gilmour or ever again for that matter.  Anyway I enjoyed the show though I am not a huge Dream Theater fan and most of what they played I did not know.  For me Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence was a highlight as well as Octavarium. I did not expect them to play anything from Metropolis, as they already have the Roseland DVD, but someday I'd like to hear more of that live.

Yeah, about the encore.  All the major venues in NY need to be done by 11: 00, union rules.  When I saw Santana last year at the Garden, it was 10:55, the band started to walk off stage and Santana needed to wave everybody back to quickly squeeze out an encore. Several years back, Crimson at the Beacon couldn't even do an encore. All these rules ruin music.

How good was Sacrificed Sons with the orchestra?

I couldn't believe how good and emotional it sounded. Fantastic job.

I saw DT on their show in Montreal last week. The set list was similar. They seemed tired. I thought it would of been great with killer songs like: Erotomania, stream of conscienness, dance of eternity, glass prison. DT rocks

They didn't seem tired or anything at Radio City.

Were there any songs like Hollow years or Beyond this life like in Budokan where they start jamming?

As far as jamming goes, i dont think there was much. I think the band was really trying to cram in as many songs from their entire career as possible and didnt have enough time to jam. For me, the jammiest moments were in Under A Glass Moon and Raise The Knife.  Also, Jordan extended the intro to Octavarium a bit, going a little crazier with his new continuum and lap steel. Some arrangements were slightly altered with the orchestra for the second set, so i guess that would substitute some other live element added to the show such as jamming.

But i did seem them the week before at Asbury Park, NJ and this was their set:

(20th Anniversary tape intro – In The Name of God outro tape)

The Root of All Evil

These Walls

Another Won

A Fortune In Lies

Take The Time

Innocence Faded

Speak To Me

Strange Déjà vu

- intermission -

The Glass Prison

This Dying Soul

Never Enough

Octavarium

Encore:

Wait For Sleep

Learning To Live (w/ middle improv jam)

They jammed a lot during Learning To Live in the middle part. It was sweet! So DT definately hasnt lost the element of jamming, i just don't think they had enough time at the RCMH show to jam (or even independently solo - except maybe Jordan's extended Octavarium intro) as well as cover an entire career of music.

Wow.. They really have an 20 piece orchestra backing them?!!!!

Reminds me of Metalica's concert... lol...

I'll be waiting, cause i'm READY FOR THE ACTIONS!

Damn it, they even played the whole 6 degree's songs... We encored so hard in their Singapore's show (23rd jan) for A CHANGE OF SEASONS, or Instrumedley, they only gave us Pull me Under/Metropolis pt 1

Lol.. PEACE!

Z'

I wonder how much time did it take for them to play all these songs?
