PINK FLOYD'S PULSE DVD UPDATE -
AND VIDEO ANTHOLOGY TOO?

Brain Damage reports:

We spoke with Pink Floyd's management today to get an update on the
long-anticipated release on DVD of the live concert video, PULSE. Whilst it
now seems to be developing into a bit of a long-running saga, getting it
released on DVD, they are now hoping for a 1st December release
worldwide, with the exception of the US, where the aim is for Thanksgiving
- 25th November. This is by no means confirmed though - but just what
the band and management are currently aiming at.

One of the reasons for the delay, is to make some technical adjustments
and improvements. This particular DVD has a lot of complex features, and
some adjustments to things like the menus has had to be done. The band
want to make sure that this release represents the pinnacle of live concert
DVDs, and so are happy to delay it if it means that the quality is just right.

Whilst talking to them, we touched on the rumoured Pink Floyd video
anthology - and they confirmed that this was something that IS actually
being looked into! Work is being undertaken on this new project by the
same person responsible for putting together the PULSE DVD. At the
moment, it is at VERY early stages, with them looking into the possibility of
putting one together.

Naturally, it will be a long process, identifying, sourcing and getting legal
clearance on footage, so don't expect this one soon! Much of the material
will belong to, and reside in, various foreign TV stations, along with the
band's own collection. It is possible, too, that they will do as other bands
have done, and seek material from fans as well.

i didn't like pulse. i hope this video collection is live shows from 1967-1979 (the best years) on VH1 classic they often play live darkside sets and it is like WHOA but i cant believe none of em have made it to dvd yet. its sad. i hope it aint a video anthology as in the promos for another brick, fletcher, see emily play etc. they only had a few promo vids!

live at pompeii is brilliant but i think darkside era light shows would be better. an important document of prog rock and pink floyd history that is missing and should have been done years ago!

I love Pulse... I attended quite a few of those shows.. and after the ELP concerts... these were the best concerts I ever saw... Coolest stage setup and light show ever... altho I tended to like the DSOT shows a little better...performance wise...

Live at Pompeii is brilliant, but not enough music and too many fake lava scenes... wasting what could of been excellent performance footage.

i watched pulse video last night. i just wasnt impressed. they had this crazy random drummer who often nicked nicks spotlight, and half the time they showed the other guitarist and not gilmour. also i think the choir ruined most of their songs, i bet if roger was there he wudda made it better. shine on you crazy diamond sounded flat with the femal voices and most of the new songs dont sound like floyd at all. High hopes was good tho. the rest were pants. The band played with no energy and aaargh its such a shame to see the best prog band go so poor.

It is not true that half time the guitarist is not Gilmour, that guy is good anyways. Him and Gilmour go way back and he plays on 2 albums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, so he's palying his own parts.

I have seen this tape many times and adore it, this the best news I have ever heard since i heard that a band called Pink Floyd existed. I have so many people to spread the news to, thank you for the most wonderful news of my life.

I agree...Tim Renwick is the "Snowy White" of the post Waters Floyd.  He's the rhythm guitarist.  He doesn't play any of Dave's parts... not that he could.

As I recall, most of the bass recorded on PF's earlier albums was Dave... so why would they even need Roger musically...  afterall my favorite quote by Roger is:

"I was demoted from lead guitar to ryhthm guitar and finally bass. There was always this frightful fear I could end up as the drummer.-Roger Waters"

I love the Pulse vhs... I somewhat agree on the backup singers... but then I never liked them that much when Roger was there either.  However, David's guitar solos on Pulse are absolutely untouchable... and its a remarkable tape.  I can't wait for the DVD.!!!

Oh yeah, because it's a little known fact that having Roger Waters in a band prevents age from showing.

SOME BAD NEWS REGARDING THIS RELEASE.....

No Confirmed Date Yet!

We have today (15 Jan 2005) been informed by Pink Floyd's Management, that there is NO confirmed release date as yet for the PULSE DVD.

In earlier advices they were saying February/March 2005, but now there is no fixed date at all!

In older news, we were advised that the band were also said to be considering doing yet a further mix of the PULSE CD with ADDITIONAL songs. We tend to think it's doubtful that these are new songs. It's possible (but not confirmed) that One Of These Days and the preshow ambient soundtrack that were on the cassette version, may be the additional material.

It also appears that there are moves to remaster the FULL back catalogue into the SACD 5.1 format!
