What to say? I'm 35 and I enjoy all kind of rock and metal. I discovered prog rock very young: in my early days I was listening to Queen and Pink Floyd, then I discovered Asia and loved that band, so I tried to find Asia-related music and I discovered a band in which John Wetton played - basically King Crimson. As a teenager I was listening to a lot of classic heavy metal (Iron Maiden and such), and my taste for metal remained for all these years. In mid 80s I discovered a great metal band: King Diamond, the precursor of black metal (and it's good to hear good black metal without any screams/growls). In 1995, my taste of music changed radically when I heard Anathema's Pentecost III and I started to listen to more symphonic and doom metal and less basic heavy metal. From that year, I started to build a strong CD collection with all kind of music (prog rock, classic metal, doom and atmospheric metal).
My favorite bands now are probably Therion, Nightwish, Anathema, Antimatter, The Eternal (and former Cryptal Darkness), Opeth, Theatre Of Tragedy and at a lesser extent My Dying Bride, Tristania and Paradise Lost (maybe I forget some too...).
Recently, I was looking for a website to listen to a band that I discovered - Arcturus, and I found this site. Wow it is impressive, with a forum, streaming MP3s, full discographies, reviews and more... On the progressive metal page, I spotted a few good bands that I'm gonna listen to very carefully, and in particular, Dream Theater. When they emerged in the early 90s, I skipped that awesome band and forgot it afterwards... something that should change for sure.
