Topic: Genesis: No Son Of Mine; Good, or Bad? Posted: December 15 2005 at 20:10 |
The song is one of my favorites. It helped me through some really hard times in '91-'92, when I finally put an end to the abuse I recieved at the hands of my stepfather.
What about you guys? All opinions are welcome.
By the way....I just saw their video for ILLEGAL ALIEN...wow. I didn't suspect Genesis could be so topical and tacky. Yikes! They should be ashamed of themselves. Collins' pseudo-hispanic voice is...AWFUL! No wonder people hate it.

It's a good pop era Genesis song. I quite like it.
I hate illegal alien! It's not in the least bit funny, and yes, Phils fake Hispanic accent is appalling.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

It's a good song with a powerful lyric. I can see why it means a lot to you sbrushfan.

I like it. The lyrics are good, it's one of their best hit singles. Even the video is good.
(Illegal Alien is good too, though not as good as No Son Of Mine. The video is funny.)

Thank You. I knew some people had a soft spot for it, and I wanted to see just how many. More than I thought, actually.
But, man...that ILLEGAL ALIEN video. I should start a poll asking "How many of you hate this song"? Wonder how many replies I'd get?

I like it. It is a quite smooth and warm song, one of those when at least they showed that the knew what they were doing

I like it. As
I've mentioned before , We Can't Dance was my first Genesis album, and
my first prog album (please let me say that unharmed...) and even
though the songs on it aren't as great to me now as they once were, I
still like them quite a lot (even though Since I Lost You is on
the edge between okay and not, worst song they ever did up to that very
moment), and No Son of Mine is one really good track on that album. As
always, Genesis open their album with a good track. Those clock ticking
sounds still give me some shivers, and reminds me of the time when I
could listen to that album all day and knew all songs by heart.

I'm pleased someone likes it as much as I do. I had to go buy the album yesterday, and now the songs is on permanent repeat in my CD player. Don't think it'll be leaving it for a while.

Actually, I
just voted "good", and then, when I thought about it, regretted it. But
there's no changing it now... I must confess I haven't listened to the
album in quite a while, but somewhen this winter, I'll try to come
around and get all the Genesis albums Ihaven't done so already with
stuffed into my computer, including We Can't Dance.
This thread made me want to listen to it...

I'd say it was a pretty good song myself- it has thought provoking lyrics and an excellent vocal by Phil Collins to make up for the fact it's not prog.
